This is a great ap. It's free. Maps and such with accurate voice inputs. The coolest thing is anyone that has wave can report instantly anything they see, cops, crashes, potholes , cars on side of road . It's like having hundreds of eyes out there. You just push a button when you see something and press the appropriate icon. No ads either. I run it beside my Garmin. And the ap is Waze. Darn autocorrect.

Troopers now use it to plant fake police cars on the interstate to spook wazers

Waze is good about audibly telling you about everything before you approach it .... everything except slow or stopped traffic. WTF is wrong with those developers?

I'm old and out of touch. I just thought this was so cool I wanted to share. Garmin should build this in.

Both of them will at least build in traffic backup notification (with data connection) soon. TomTom already has a device out with this but no doubt it will need work to get the bugs out. But as far as the rest of the info that Waze provides, Google is not going to share that other proprietary data/system with anyone so RM and Garmin will have to settle for live traffic speed awareness. I guess they both have live traffic via data coms but they need to add in enhanced notification of problems immediately ahead.

Many will argue that many will become dependent on this and there will be times when there are problems with the system or connection, and data will not be correct or current but this can easily be resolved by indicating, "missing or old data" flashing icon when there is a problem and not currently working up to par, for whatever reason.

My Garmin is paired with my phone for weather and traffic, but I need to ask them where it comes from.

I don't have the newer Garmin. Does it show a traffic overlay in remote areas of interstate like between Little Rock and Memphis for example? I.e. If traffic is flowing normal, does it indicate so on the map as "green" or do you have to guess if it has current traffic for a given area or not

No color for normal, but yellow for slow or red for stopped. Tells exactly how many miles ahead and length of delay. Usually pretty accurate. If there is an alternate route it will offer it and tell you how much time it will save. You hit the button and it comes up so you can see if you want it. Hit it again if you do. Despite the glitches, I love this 770. Garmin is working hard to make it perfect. You call and they answer pretty fast. Dedicated line for motorcycle and diesel trucks. 800 800 1020
