Alley backing from street

Your trainer is an arsehat. Cars can wait 5 minutes or more.

I tried the fastenall thing once and one of the routes I drove had an arsehat like yours.

He sat in the passenger seat leaning forward while I was blindsiding. Told him I couldn't see with his head blocking the mirror. He said, "trust me, I'll tell you what to do."

Told him to tell me from outside the cab.

"It's snowing!!!"

"So.."

"Trainer"

 

So your "trainer" has been driver a whole 2 years? He isn't qualified to be a trainer.

 

I bet you're trainer taught you how to park at the fuel iland for your 30 minute break ..... he wasn't trained right to begin with and some moron at your company told him he was an expert driver and would make a good trainer . ... it's the way the mega carriers business model throw away trucks and throw away drivers. .. and it is really hard to blame them because they can't keep drivers except for the most. mentally challenged so the only way they can keep bodies in there trucks is to operate in the driver mill system and try to lobby the congress to lower the age to 18

 

I agree with most of the first respondents who lit up the trainer.

However there have been many times where one of my guts thinks he is doing fine and gets upset when I pull him out and finish the back myself. Every back I start a stopwatch so I can tell when we've moved into "unreasonably excessive time". This keeps me from getting antsy and can show the trainee that what he thought was 5 minutes was actually 25. Could this scenario be at play?


Every trainee should be able to back into a spot at a target or wm dc in under 5 minutes BEFORE going out with a road trainer. I eat a lot of garbage from some customers over giving my guys too much time on their yards. It's not just my income, it's also not upsetting the customer.

 

He's just testing you on how you handle pressure.

Seems you passed the test. Don't worry about the headless chicken.

I never heard of a so called trainer giving a trainee a time limit to back in a dock ..... there's a good back and that's where your in the dock and you didn't hit anything .... if it takes some body a couple of pull ups or whatever to get in a space the trainer should be calmly see what the student is doing wrong and advise him ... the only bad back is when you hit something that your not supposed too ... if it takes to long that would signifies a bad trainer ..... a Walmart DC complaining about you taking too long backing in a dock .... really dude ....

 

I have in regard to backing from a very busy street. Most students while slow can do it with little or no problem. It is when the student can't do it and a long period of time has elapsed. A cop can tell you to get out of the road. This is not a walmart DC situation.

 

How long can I hold up other trucks waiting to get into their docks? If we have a 0900 appt snd my guy starts backing at 0830, but still isnt in the dock at 0900 should I still put no limit? When is it time for me to start talking him in? When should I pull him? There is no one answer but those thresholds will get passed and a road trainer has to make that call.

There are times and places to practice backing. Coming in off the street is not the time to be working basic skills and methods. As others have said, find a deserted place where you are not impacting others. If a driver doesn't have certain basic skills then they should not go otr with a trainer. That is the time to be learning trip planning, company policies, and how to deal with "intetesting" situations.

 

no actually the trainer could back in a tuff dock and go practice some other place ... sounds like you are a watcher missing the train part of the word trainer.....
