Proper Use Of Orange Safety Triangles

Oh I might also add that I SAW the violation and the ticket. In the remarks section of the inspection report the cop stated he sit and timed the driver with regard to the triangles. I have had to deploy triangles many times over the years. Once I seen i was not going anywhere soon I got that orange box out and deployed those triangles.

 

The reason you never see triangles set up right, you re lucky to get some lazy or fat ### truck driver to walk 20 feet to trash can or restroom, never mind walking 200 feet to set up last triangle

 

Everytime I've seen triangles recently, they're all placed about 5 feet within each other and I shake my head. The only guy I could understand doing that is when a truck was literally stopped on I-69 in the middle of Houston in the middle lanes in the middle of the day. That #### is scary.

 

Sometimes you re lucky to even see triangles put out, and not to mention when they re broke down at night on side of road, they re too lazy to turn their flashers on to alert oncoming traffic

 

I just put a rag in the left fuel tank, if your lucky it will burn for hours.

 

Correct. Its usually the 3rd triangle about 20-50 ft away at most. Too much walking... LOL

 

I'm glad the OP started this thread. It's a rare thing to see "professional drivers" bother to set their triangles correctly. I keep a set of flares in addition to triangles. More is better.

Your job is to keep the general public safe as you pass through. If you are broke down on the side of the road, figure out how to WARN ONCOMING DRIVERS WELL IN ADVANCE that you are on the shoulder.

Pay attention to how poorly a significant number of drivers on the road have zero lane control. How often do you see "professional drivers" getting well past the fog line or zipper? Your first triangle from THEIR point of view should be WELL back from your trailer. Give those bad drivers a heads up EARLY.

 

I was 'broke down' in the left turn lane in Co. ... Cop told me straight out. Just put a couple right behind the trailer. So people know it ain't going anywhere. This was in the middle of a snow storm. In the middle of the night. I ended up with a cop car 400 feet back. Three others right in front of me. They lit flairs all over the place. Directed the little traffic there was. They were great. Alot better than triangles.
