i am currently leased to a small carrier that accounts have dried up do to economy. Was wondering if I could do better with my own authority. Broker loads are slim but available if you shop. Rates are not good but would be better than not running. I think rates would be ok if I did not have to give up 25 percent to carrier. They are not even interested in booking broker loads do to low rates. I think I could do better if I did not give up 25 percent please educate me. I know pay would be slow but I already wait 15 days for my settlement

This will help if you need it . http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/online-registration/onlineregdescription.htm
You'll go broke working off load boards . It would be best if you had a good base customer or two but as you say , those accounts are hard to come by . I wouldn't get authority without a solid customer base . Rates are too low already and will get lower . Contrary to what you say running for low rates is not better than sitting . That's why rates are so low . Not enough people are saying no to them .

I understand you are better off sitting before hauling cheap freight. But 25 percent cut makes broker loads cheap. Hard to run after cut and make any money. Could make money if 100 percent came to me. Thanks for your input.

Well I don't know if sitting home is better. If you can make $52 profit on the load, you're just doing what you would expect someone who only makes minimum wage to do... get a job instead of sitting home.

You wouldn't believe how many O/O's out there accept loads where they LOSE over $50 . I also know many that accepted a load with marginal profit and while they were doing that run missed out on one that paid considerably better . You don't run to keep moving . Calculate a rate that will return an acceptable profit and don't accept less .

Beats me but carriers on Uship do it a lot . One carriers on the forum says he'll run for $.76 a mile , $.24 if he's headed that way anyway . :biggrin_2552:
