Been thinking, we have a few part timers, some drive for other trucking companies, others are employed in other fields. Now the question, no more paper logs, how does a part timer log into an ELD and show his last 7 days. He has worked for another trucking company, now he comes over and start driving a few trips for this company. Just exactly is all this going to work? And what if a part timer doesn't even have a password to get into the ELD?? There are more and more questions that come to mind when dealing with ELDs and part time drivers.

The company will have to set him up as a driver and give him a user name and pass code so he can log on. He can email his last 7 days to himself and or print them so he will have them handy......should not be a problem.......

Paper logs for me, by God. If i ever had to elog i would just stay home. -
ok worse
I work for a temp agency
Monday I"m at company A
Tuesday I'm at company B
Wednesday I'm off
Thursday I'm at company A
Friday I'm at company C
more than 1 might be over 100 air miles. Even if I print it out at the end of my shift, it will still end at 6pm (for example) and not run thru until midnight. How do I show my day off? Company B's will show off duty Monday, but that won't be true.
I'm seriously worried about this.
BTW, not one company yet has created a log in for me for their E-logs. I keep my own paper logs for every day and just change part of the company name (I list both). NO company even wants their copy of my paper logs. (i have a whole stack in my front seat of my car that have been "turned in". The company that actually holds my driver files is the temp agency but they don't own any trucks so they have no E-log systems.Bank_Lbr Thanks this. -
It just blows my mind that one driver going down the road hauling a load of raw milk is exempt from logging, but here comes another driver right behind him, hauling a load of paper towels and he is logging. Both are required to obey the same traffic laws, but only one is required to observe the HOS laws. Doesn't make one ounce of sense. Only proves how screwed up the FMSCA is. The driver hauling milk could work 24 hrs and never violate, driver hauling paper towels better not and get caught.
Take the HOS for bus drivers, never got touched back in 2004 when truck drivers HOS got tampered with. A tour bus driver can leave 3am, go pick up a group of people, drive several hours to D.C. tour all day, take the group out for dinner or to see a show that night, head back home late that night, arriving back home 3am the next day and the bus driver has never violated his log. AND HE IS HAULING PEOPLE, LIVE HUMANS. He can stop the clock, but he has no sleeper or bed to even take a nap, where a truck driver has a bed, but cannot STOP THE CLOCK. CRAZY AS HELL -
Has anyone running part time/ 8 day out of 30 been DOT inspected yet? I'm wondering because I run under this but imagine when I get inspected the officer isn't going to know what I'm talking about and give me a hard time.

Print the appropriate part of the regulation and carry it with youDieselboss, deathB4decaf, Bank_Lbr and 1 other person Thank this. -
The drivers I work with (I am in compliance in the office) all have a copy of any exemptions that pertain to them. For example, we are a driveaway/towaway operation, when the vehicle being driven is our commodity, that makes the driver exempt from using an ELD. We were already told that the 8 days in a 30 day rolling period cancel out the exemption by a DOT officer in New Mexico, which is not true. Keep track of your hours on paper.
