I really have to laugh when someone that has been away from the industry for 7 years can come on here and call people liars and idiots when they state something.
You don't know how many miles these drivers run, how much they are making a mile, or what extras they get (drop pay, layover pay etc).
If someone drives 2500 miles per week, for 51 weeks, at .40cpm, you can gross over $50,000. I think there are still drivers that get over 2500 a week, and if experienced, probably make more than .40cpm, and when you add in the extras, they probably make a pretty good paycheck.
One question, why is a high tech computer geek hangin' around a truck drivers forum, with all of us low-life truckers? Could it be things are slow at Micky-D's, and you have time on your hands!!!

My last trucking job was 8 years ago, and I consistently made almost $60,000 a year, regional!
I averaged 2700 to 3000 miles per week, got paid for drops after the first, and usually had a 5 drop load, three trips a week from Ma to Washington,DC area, at .31cpm.
2700 X .31= $837.00
12 extra drops@$25 ea=$300.00
Total $1137.00 per wk X 51=$57,987
It can be done, so why say it can't!

So, you do your thing and I'll do mine. All I'm gonna say is I won't be wasting my time on the computer geeks forum anytime soon. -
Forget it tanker girl, he wont listen to anybody but himself. I know what kind of money I made and I dont care what he thinks. The person I was talking about grossed 134000 for one year after a 10000 bonus for profit sharing. So thats 124000 for a year and driving 3500 miles a week. You just have to find the right situation. We hauled permitted loads that paid very well and even got to go home almost every weekend. I am still kind of sorry I gave it up. But hey frdr, just keep telling everyone what you dont really know about the pay in the trucking industry.

I'll say it one more time, the numbers don't add up. You ain' averagin' 5K miles per week. You are makin' 20 to 30K per year.
See ya, wouldn't want to be ya! -
Lotsa belly achin' and gripin'... but he's still in a truck. Even being home every weekend, I can still consistently make just over $50k a year. Not many jobs you can really do that and experience what we do. There is a certain sense of accomplishment I feel when I deliver a load across the country within a 15-minute window. Knowing I have done a professional job getting that freight to someone who needs it, and yes, keeping America moving, gives a sense of pride more than handing another Big Mac across a counter ever would. If you hate the job and the industry so much, get a different job. Make room for some of the newbies that WANT to take up this PROFESSION.
Hitman and Tankergirl80 Thank this. -
let me ask you a question would you keep driving a truck OTR for less than $2,000 gross a month? -

All i can say is you have no idea what you are talking about. Freight is slow but you have to take 3 months off to make the numbers you are spewing off. Maybe you should look for a job that pays you more than 14cpm.
