It's been about seven years since I lived in Texas. Have things changed that much? What surcharge? I've never heard of that. And how can they suspend your drivers license for an expired insurance policy? You insure a car, not a driver. Did you get a ticket for no insurance and fail to pay it or something?

His question is pretty common on here. Some states suspend a drivers license for letting your auto insurance lapse and some suspend a drivers license for failure to pay child support. Lots of reasons.

I got a few tickets due to having no insurance a few years ago. It was a tough time financially. I paid off all the tickets earlier this year so I can get my CDL. Paying the tickets meant a "conviction" of sorts and I have to pay surcharges for 3 years. If a payment is missed, your license is suspended...Also, I had to get a SR-22 to maintain insurance for 2 years, if there's any lapse/cancellation, your license is suspended.

It's possible to forget certain things in life sometimes.

I once failed to register a car for 9 months which incurred a 200 dollar ticket but insurance and license on me was valid. I went ahead and paid the registration instnantly at the revenuer and paid the 200 cash within a few minutes after. I don't think the officer had time to do anything with the paperwork or computer processing of the actual ticket he issued within like 10 minutes ago. I held a CDL that day too. But because everything was paid quickly in a few minutes after the traffic stop it was treated as a contribution and it never showed on my record that would have caused problems.

In our State you can swear out a affidavit that you never touched public streets or driven a vehicle between the last date of registration expiry until the renewal. But in the officer's complaint, it was 9 months times 30 days times 5.00 a day so 1450 dollars paid, 200 paid, and the tags a measly 29 paid. It's nice to have financial resources that day when it was most needed.

I wont get into why the car was not registered for 9 months. Sometimes given enough problems and conflicts in life you forget important things.

Now suspension tells me you already incurred a stack of tickets or did a offense so big that they went ahead and suspended it whatever it was and it probably will get your CDL suspended too. The concept being that if you hold a Professional CDL you are held to a much much higher standard than just a basic car driver.

I think you will just have to wait and see, take care of what needs taken care of quickly. Just be careful not to spin money. Apply it where it benefits you to get up to date and not be suspended etc asap.

You definitely will have to sweat this out. If it is a formal suspension against your CDL, you are going to experience bigger problems within your big truck employment. My suggestion is to stay home until this is blown over. You do not want to be told at a DOT scale in say Dumfries DC 2000 miles from home that you are in fact suspended and they handcuff you for the Jailhouse in Arlington. Those things tend to explode very destructively.

Yes, I forgot to pay my insurance last week and it lasped. My fiance happened to realize it. So we made the necessary arrangements. Just worried about the possible effects it may have on my future. If the suspension occurs, it will be the first time while holding a CDL.

Suspensions are bad, but not the end of the world. You and your Fiance will do well to talk this over and prepare for that time period if necessary.

If I were you, I would do whatever you need to do to keep her. Not too many Fiances would notice stuff like that that is actually pretty important and a wonderful asset. You two may not feel first class right now but again when this blows over, I think it will lead to bigger and better things for you two.

It goes without saying that you owe her now. Probably honey do this honey do that honey etc. /half teasing.

With this one i thought it was simply a temporary suspension till you pay you overdue fees by doing this it almost guarantees that people will pay up their bills, best check with the dept of transport.

All you have to do is call the folks, I'm guessing Homeland security, or your local DMV, and see if your license is valid. You can even get a police officer to to check it. If they say yes, then you're in the clear. I'd keep checking more than once. It's important you stay on top of every so you don't have trouble

She handles pretty much everything. She is truly amazing and keeps up with everything important. However, this adjustment has been a bit tough mentally and her grandmother and Aunt both passed away recently along with her going to school. So to say the least she's definitely been stressed. She holds her own weight most definitely. ShesS blaming herself, but I don't blame her, I should have been on it as well given the circumstances. We'll get through this. I appreciate your help.

    NavigatorWife and x1Heavy Thank this.
