Hoping to find someone Familiar with the Paccar to advise me on this.

Truck won't build air at idle, it will build air at 1100 rpm and above.

No air leaks anywhere; truck will sit for over an hour with brakes released and engine off and only lose 5 psi of air.

Governor is working correctly and the air dryer is functioning correctly and has a new cartridge.

I am assuming the problem is a sticking Unloader Valve in the compressor or just a worn out compressor, truck has 480,000 miles which seems too early for a compressor failure.

I am assuming the compressor unloader valve is internal on this compressor (Wabco 9125181030) as I cannot find one accessible from the outside, this issue has developed over the last couple weeks

It looks like I could remove the compressor head without pulling whole compressor, does anyone have any experience doing this and will removing the head give me access to the unloader valve?

Thank you for any help you can provide?

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

I do not know much about an MX13 but Vector fertilizer spreaders with Cummins have Wabco compressors. They have a slide valve in the head that goes bad. An out of service Vector costs a lot in sales. We have a compressor on the shelf.
Normally the head can just be swapped out and I have seen problems on Macks also.
I would want to connect compressor outlet directly to an air tank with a gauge. Different hose and unloader hose disconnected. Something like that to test the compressor. Stinks to put a compressor on and find out you have a bad hose or something.
If it has oil in the tanks get a compressor but it is normally just the head.

Yeah I was thinking about just changing the head out first, the unloader is integral in the head on the Wabco's you use?

Never tried pulling the head in chassis. The procedure says it can be done without compressor removal but procedure doesnt know chassis. Usually replacing the whole compressor because the front crank bearing cage fails and all the rollers fall out.

Usually catastrophic failure without warning. When the cage breaks all the bearings fall to one side and fail to support the crankshaft. Once it goes off center it breaks the steering pump and or drive adapter. Loss of steering and fuel pressure are the result as they are both driven off the compressor. Haven't seen a ton like this, but I can count them on one hand. To see more than one is a pattern imo. All them were close or over your current mileage.

All of these failures I speak of occurred on the EPA 10 engine.

P/N 1732070PEX for compressor cylinder head and gasket kit. Haven't done one on MX, but have changed many compressor heads on ISX and ISM that have had sticking slider valves(unloader). If you do pull compressor off, don't forget to pull hex plug and oil supply tube for the air compressor out before attempting to remove compressor.

I can certainly help you with this and it is the same compressors that Cummins or Mack uses. You can also go to their web site for assistance. Not so difficult, just time consuming and you'll need some tools (more than a socket set and a bag of wrenches), Just did a couple of 2012 386's. When you have the kit let me know.
