Well, I am just finishing up my 1st month with Melton and like the title says, so far so good. Orientation was informative and I learned a lot. They answerd a lot of questions about policies, tarping, securing and driving a spread axle. Comming from Werner it is a 180 degree turn for the better. My dispatcher actually responds to qualcom messages!
They have good equpiment, although in very good shape, the Kenworth T-600 is lacking in room. My dispacher said to get back with her in January and they would try to get me into a Freighliner. We'll see.
Anyway, the miles suck right now, as they do everywhere. they should pick back up after CHRISTmas. Again, we'll see.
Melton So far so good.

Well I saw a T660 aand it looked good. They seem to take care of their equipment from that driver told me. Also, I didn't know they operated Freightliners.

Slow..wow i was tx 2 weeks ago and a convoy of them were at the pilot all loaded with pipe...thought they were keeping busy...i almost went with melton but wasnt sure if i wanted to try the fladbed thing..and not sure how i would do yanking a 90lb tarp around.
-
I see Melton wants 3 mos experiance before they'll take you. How long have you been driving??
-
I thought the same thing about the tarps. Actually, I almost went home when they put me on top of a 10 foot glass load. It kinda freaked me out. But, I told myself, people do a lot worse stuff than this everyday.
Its actually not that bad. plus flatbedders are a different breed of driver. for the better. -
when i drove for arrow i saw alot of melton trucks all over the country.. seems like they run in arrow's shadow
arrow was changing over to lighter material for our 3pc tarps when i left.. i wonder if melton will lighten up their tarps.. -
month number 2.
Sale ole. Sittin in a stop here in TX. I got a load, but it doesnt deliver till tomorrow. One thing I have found, when you sit, you SIT. Whats funny is, when you get a load, they want it there yesterday. But, thats gonna be anywhere you go. Dispatch is still pretty cool and fairly understanding. Their load planners are still retarted, they dont understand the concept of time being different in a big truck.
Example. I got a load out of Houston,TX yesterday. It picked up 30 miles away (thei milage, actually 45) picking up at 930, I get the load at 900. Like I can make that. then they want me in Tulsa the next morning at 9 am. umm... did you guys take into account loading, securing and tarping? Yes, 2 hrs.. RIGHT. it took 2 hrs just to get loaded. the 4 hrs to do the rest. 2 coils and an eye to the sky coil, then tarp. It took 5 hrs to get everything done from load to leave.
yet again, thats gonna be anywhere you go. so far so good. pretty good company. WAY better than Werner ever thought of being. -
Thanks for the update, besafe and travel well
