...and there goes the ELD mandate. Off to the circular file.brsims, Studebaker Hawk and Oldironfan Thank this.

What bothers me is that I was hoping the mandate would force the industry to change their wasteful ways. I tried to overlook all the utterly repulsive things attached to the ELD in order to see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Now, all they did was back peddle on everything and left us with even more industry burdening legislations/regulations to further take away freedoms, privacy, etc etc for absolutely zero benefit to us. Once again...they gain, we lose.

I'd say it was about 50/50 #####ing vs happy. Mostly just comments. You have a bad day?Studebaker Hawk Thanks this.

Well I guess elog is not much better than paper log. Except for timestamping your location at any time.
At least we can all be super truckers now lol.
Trucker61016 and scottied67 Thank this. -
And the FMCSA just released this guidance without conferring with the CVSA, and did it 5 days before the HOS nationwide safety blitz. A friend of mine is a DOT officer in TX, he knew nothing of this.
Trucker61016, MagnumaMoose, Bank_Lbr and 2 others Thank this. -
I use every thing to my advantage possible. Creeping around my customer when delivering on the ten hr break is one. Personal conveyance is much better one....people use to have to be creative about logging.....now you have to be creative about time use

I think the point some are making is "abuse" is ok as long as its the driver's preference, whereas the "abuse" that is not desirable is the type where the employer is the one dictating where to stop for "safe haven".
Perhaps we're all afraid of the lack of criteria and reference for DOT and troopers. They are not going to distinguish between the two types of "abuses" and may be prone to simply put both "abusers" and legitimate seekers OOS based on the mere identification of log violations.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
It much better and keep you safe from tickets in stupid situation.
5 years ago I was driving I-80 west from Laramie to Rawlins. Had 1hour 47 minute to cover 100 miles.
Good weather, gross weight under 60,000. Nothing unrealistic.
When I was 40 miles away from Rawlins DPF start giving ###t. Engine overheating, red stop light.
Cool her on the shoulder, checked some wires, run forced regeneration. Nothing helps.
Start driving on the lover gears uphill to keep her cool.
Here we go, red and blue lights behind.
We had good conversation about EPA and such then he asked if he can see my logbook.
Ouchh.. I didn't make any entry in duty status changes because dirty hands and was thinking she will start running good .
Now I'm over 11 driving but OK in 14 On duty. He said he understand my situation but .......
ELD was installed two days later.Oldironfan and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
The article from Commercial Carrier Journal said your hours must be exhausted.
If you're flagrantly using line 5, especially this week, and the next two weeks, you have an excellent chance of getting busted.
Terrible move in my opinion. Especially for reefer. Now you're gonna be back to business as usual, nice 5 hour unloads, 5 hour loads, then told "Oh well you can just PC down to the rest area."tlalokay, Oldironfan, Trucker61016 and 6 others Thank this.
