I've got an ISX 2250 that has a dropped liner/head issue. Pressurizing my coolant pretty bad to a point where I blew a couple hoses over the last week.
Looking at inframe but also considering a reconditioned motor. My current motor has about 650,000 Km but lots of idle time. It had d-lete done before I bought it (probably at about 400,000).
The reason I'm not sure which way to go is I also have a front structure and a rear structure leak. Fuel pump is original from what I can tell and injectors are original.
Would it be cheaper to just pull it and replace it? Especially with doing the structure leaks also. Can you buy recon motors without the egr?
And approx what would be an average price to rebuild a isx15 2250 vs new? I'm hearing early estimates of $40,000 CAD to rebuild.

You could do what I want to do with my e model cat and get one out of a salvage yard that needs to be rebuilt, rebuild it and swap them around, rebuild the original after and sell it.

I'm not sure if the pump has been replaced or rebuilt. I know there are issues with that model pump that I'd like to avoid after doing an inframe. Don't really want to do the motor only to have the FP detonate and take out the engine.

I think complete drop in is the way to go, especially considering your other leaks you have there. But, you have a big problem with it being d-leted. Any reputable shop won't touch it due to legal implications and any complete reman you get will be emissions legal, so all that will have to restored.

@Tug Toy paid I think $28,000 for a new engine, well a reman, from Cummins complete shipped to his house.

I think I'd explore salvage yards.

There's a place in Phoenix that pulls them out of roll overs, etc., and they list in $12,000 to $15,000 range, and some are bigger HP.

Might be a dumb question but, would it be possible to replace with a drop in cm570? If there aren't any issues with emissions / annual safety in sk. We'd never get away with it in Ontario. It all has to at least appear functional.

There was another thread somewhere saying cummins remain from the factory have poor qc. While the cummins rebuild shops seem to be doing a better job. I'll see if I can find that thread later tonight and post it if I can...unless someone else here knows the one I'm thinking of..

Good used is an option too. I'm going to go talk with my mechanic shop on Monday to decide.
Work is a little slow right now so the downtime isnt a problem. I just want the best option for my buck.

That's what I was thinking too. If I get the complete reman it'll have the EGR intact. So I'm paying for something that I don't want. And while it would be nice to have an engine with warranty...the warranty would be gone after pulling the EGR anyway.
That's why I haven't talked to the Cummins shop about in-frame...they probably wouldn't touch it unless putting it back to stock condition.

It might just last a lot longer in stock trim.
