We run about 45 trucks on long to medium distance mail runs. They all have a deer bumper of some kind and they've more than paid for themselves. We started out with Ali Arc bumpers; downside was cost and some drivers, women, found them too heavy to close. They definitely hold up to multiple hits. We bought one Herd Super Road Train for a W900L; downsides are cost and much too heavy for our older drivers to close although the new slam locks will make that better.

We now use a bumper made by Ex-Guard; so far no downsides. They tolerate deer hits quite well, cost less than half of an Ali Arc and much easier to close and lock. Also these allow you keep the stock bumper in place and are just an add-on type of bumper rather than a replacement like the Ali Arc or Herd.

Deer–vehicle collisions lead to about 200 human deaths and $1.1 billion in property damage every year but are never mentioned in safety meetings. The corporation I work for has totaled two vehicles in 30 days due to deer strikes; no drug tests or police reports done and during the safety meeting the district manager freaked out when I brought up the subject yelling "This is my safety meeting, not yours" and went back to drivers complaining about trips. “A person who is in a motor vehicle for 30 miles every day for a year faces a fatality risk of about 1 in 12,500. The entire commercial fleet management of Passenger Vans, Service Trucks, and semi-trucks avoids all safety concerns like the plague to keep incomes down as low as possible with unprofessional "no clue" drivers. When passengers of these non DOT regulated vehicles are afraid to ride with over half the drivers who claim to be alien abduction victims who can see in the dark without headlights?

No. The original bumper gets replaced with a huge support for the Herd with it's own tow pin.

The two eyelets are what hold the bumper to the Herd undercarriage. Below those are two hinges for the bumper. Neither would hold up under the kind of strain you'd likely put on that bumper trying to pull it out out of something. The slot between the eyelets is where the tow pin goes, that is anchored to the frame of the truck. Any behind the bumper support you have for your factory tow hook will get replaced by the huge Herd piece.

I'v seen them bent from broadsiding a moose but the damage to truck was only $10K compared to no bumper would have been $30k+. A deer will scratch it. Money well spent IMO. Moose just getting active at the highway around here and there are some monsters in protected area I run that has not been hunted over 50 years.

I've attached a couple pics of the Herd SRT bumper we had on our KW W900L. The first pic is the undercarriage that gets bolted to the frame of the truck. The second pic is the backside of the actual bumper.

That would be perfect...even though I still don't think it could survive hitting my ex wife. I think anything will help reduce damage from a deer

This is really great to hear Sublime! We love hearing how our Guards are keeping truckers safe. We would like to feature you and your experience with Ex-Guard, could we have your permission to quote you? Plus we are always looking for good pictures of our guards, and before and after deer pics!
