I absolutely hate having a CB on my dash. I couldn't stand it. I don't know. I was looking around the cab of my freightshaker and was taking my radio and shoving it in different areas just to see what could be done.
I moved it all over the place and then it dawned on me.....the crapcadia has a double din slot for the radio. Meaning the radio takes one slot and the storage area is the other. The president McKinley model CB (very expensive radio, far more than the radios in the truck stops) is designed to fit into a Din slot perfectly.
Well, after a little research, I decided to try to take on this challenge. Of course I couldn't start ripping the panel of my truck apart and cutting out the storage tray since we aren't even allowed to drill a hole in this truck.....but I had an idea. We have all the old hulks of wrecked trucks in the back. I asked a mechanic if he minded going with me to the back and taking one out of a wreck so I could cut it up and make my CB fit on my home time. He said sure it's slow today lets go. We jump in the company truck and off we go across the road to the body shop.
He grabs me a bracket out of a wreck and says he'd like to see it when I'm done. Let me tell you, that was not easy, it was a lot of work, but it was well worth it. I really took my time and used my skills as an airplane mechanic and HAM radio operator to make it right, and make it fit well. The radio has a forward firing speaker, not a downward firing one so no external speaker is needed. It's also now much closer to me, so I can read the display, the buttons and also hear it much better than before.
For the mic holder, I just used one of the screws that holds the little decorative bracket that covers the bolts that hold the radio in to hold the mic holder. The screw was PERFECT in size. I couldn't have picked a better size. So with this entire installation, nothing original on the truck was altered. Every driver that sees this setup compliments me on it. It's the only one like it in the entire Ozark fleet!
Anyone ever saw an in-dash CB mount?

Thank you. That's what I was aiming for, a nice clean look. I was more than pleased with the results. In fact I was shocked.

Wow. That looks like it's fresh from the factory. Congratulations!

Looks nice, the McKinley is a nice rig, but not insane on the price. It is what Uniden should have made the 980. I’ve done a couple of in dash installs, working on another overhead console for my Silverado pickup now. It will accept an AT-6666. Kudos on taking the time for a clean look and fixing a problem properly.

Looks great. I always called that storage tray a pastry warmer because it gets so hot right there.

Nice. Did the same in my pickup. Never considered that for the Cascadia I drive. Never thought there would be enough depth but for that radio perfect
