In order to be a OO you must have a brain and use it. To be company driver you just need to say yes, bend over and take it.
Hubby was with ODFL and left because of the stupid rules they pushed on drivers. He made Avg $1300 a week after everything. He is now a OO and home when he wants.

I always enjoyed being a company driver at a mega more than doing my own thing at Landstar for the following reasons:

    1) Repowers. Nothing better than FINALLY getting a run that is long and getting it taken away from you.
    2) Check calls. Nothing better than 27 check calls per day/load to make sure your 15 miles further up the road than you were 15 minutes ago.
    3) Sitting at truck stops every weekend because there was no freight.
    4) Sitting in some absolute #### hole place because there was no freight.
    5) Begging for loads / miles.
    6) Begging for home time.
    7) The monster checks.
    8) Having to take the truck to a terminal to get it fixed, and spending 2 or 3 days there.
    9) Perpetually fixing every F trailer I ever hooked to.
    10) Getting F'd in the ### by after hours.
    11) No pets.
    12) Rider with the approval of God.
    13) Being lied to 24/7 by some schleps in operations.
    14) Never ending shuttle runs from drop yards to customers in Eastern Pennsylvania / Jersey.
    15) Never ending shuttle runs from drop yards / terminals to Dallas.
    16) Sitting at shippers and receivers for 6 hours and getting $23.
    17) Some STOOGE in operations never making appointments so I could sit in the bushes for 2 or 3 days at some giant cold storage or Wal Mart.

Being company driver is simply the best.

money is better now by far the last year or so being an o/op ...... but wasn't like that in 08 and 09 ..... but I don't see myself as a company driver ever again. .... I tell you a little secret if you're the oldest child from your family you have an 80 % chance of success in a buisness venture ... if you are the youngest child from your family you have a 90% chance of failure .. in between children have a 25% to 50% chance of success. .. these are proven statistics

I'm the youngest. The rest of the family is into me for $60 LARGE.
Anything else you'd like to add?

That's cash. That'll never see a dime of, doled out in 5 figure chunks.

These are the reasons it SUCKS to be an O/O, especially at Landstar.

    One year in.

    1) $70,000 banked, with every bill, new SS Camaro payment / insurance / registration all of it, all truck payments, all taxes, every common living expense, everything PAID.

    2) Truck never stops unless I want it to.
    3) Never so much as a peep out of Landstar.
    4) Pets in truck.
    5) Not having to rely on F STUPID people.
    6) Not having to rely on F STUPID people.
    7) Not having to rely on F STUPID people.
