Put one these on. This combined with your Jake and you'll probley have enough retarding HP to sharpen your crown gear over time. Lol!

That would be the Jake Brake for my C15 ACERT Caterpillar. Right now I have a whole garage full of parts and pieces off of it. After 1.4 million miles, it cracked a head.

Yes, it is a wallet drainer, but it is my personal truck, not a working truck anymore. My retirement gift to myself.
All those people that were complaining about the Acert engines, I can only wonder why they were claiming that they were no good. Seems to me that maybe not all of the ACERTs were being taken care of.
So I will rebuild this one and pull my boat and ride in style. Afterall, I registered it as a motorhome. 475 HP camper!!

340D jake brakes were the better series form 6NZ/7CZ engines. good solenoids, healthy springs and plungers and correct clearances all help the jake work to its potential.

however with no VGT turbo it will never compare to an ISX. they also don't compare to an ACERT with 2 points more compression to slow the engine down on jakes.

Variable geometry turbos is a really dumb idea, just another dumb sensor that'll quit working at the worst time, just compound it and be done with it, just my hillbilly opinion.

Honestly, Cummins has worked through most of the issues with the VGT. We used to replace a lot of them now its slowed down to almost nothing. VGT beats out compounding in a couple different ways. Using the VGT to assist in jaking performance produces more force then compounds could ever do. Also the VGT is used for a faster warm up/ regen cycles. VGT is a bit more then just a dumb sensor.

Bah to regen. I like older motors the best. 2003 to 2007 you can easily get rid of the EGR and all it's issues on all motors. Yes, depending on the brand you may have to replace the turbo, but that's a good thing. If you scour the net you can find directions on how to block and delete your evil EGR. So I'm not scared of motors that are pre 2008. Although, if you get one with many miles on it, the EGR system has usually ruined it until you rebuild the engine. I'm not an expert with Detroits. Where I haul it's 90% mountains, so I have no use for a weak motor that I could hold back the load downhill with my shoes better than it's so-called jake. Cats are yes the cat's behind, but they also have weak jakes unless you spend a ton adding on some extra. Beware the bridge Cats. But the venerable 3406 and 6NZ (c-15, NOT c15) are the best kitties around. Acerts will get you 2 turbos and twice the grief. So boys and girls, get yourself 2002 or older. And I'll vouch for the Cummins N14 and ISX. Yes, that's right, the ISX. The pre-EGR rock., although the '99 motors had their issues. I myself have just found an older cornbinder with a fresh rebuilt 2002 pre-EGR ISX, done right, and putting out 600 ponies. Looks kinda sweet too. Not bad for $34k CDN.....
