I've already noticed issues with the ELD getting hot in the window. I asked Mark Kling when he still posted here if RMN tested their devices for "extreme weather" he didn't know, so probably not.

The other problem is the adhesive on the Velcro I used to mount the tablet starts to sheer at 90 degrees. The weight of the tablet starts sliding down the dashboard.

Temp on the tablet isn't an issue because if it's hot enough to be uncomfortable I turn on the a/c. I did discover I can't leave the tablet sitting on the Velcro on a hot day overnight though. Best to take it off.

This is news to me. So, yall are saying it HAS to be "mounted"???? My Elog is on my phone so I just lay it on the heat/AC controls just above the cup holders. It stays right there. It is not mounted, just laying up there connected to the charger.

Well mine is not mounted, I don’t know if it is supposed to be. I have been keeping it out of direct sunlight. ( my IPAD the ELD is sitting on the dash not mounted where I can see both green lights, to assure it is working properly) If I get tagged for it not being properly I will have no choice but to challenge it because once the IPAD overheats it is inoperable. I have ordered a cheap tablet will be here Friday.

Yeah I think it does. But that was a rule written before it was determined app based eLogs were deemed acceptable.

Personally I bought a tablet specifically because I didn't want:

1.) the police to have access to my personal phone
2.) my company to burn through MY data
3.) bad software corrupting my phone causing me to lose personal information. (Pics, contacts, etc.) I've already had an early version of DriverConnect crash my tablet, and though it never happened again if it had been my phone I'd have gone homicidal.

Back to the point, a suction or sticky mount seems acceptable but as someone earlier pointed out if you have your eLog out and ready (long with license, registration, medical and BOLs) before the cop gets to your door it's unlikely he'll ask.

It seems like the cops are already sick of this system already and as long as you're not flagrantly illegal/confrontational, ("I pay your salary with my taxes! Hold my beer! What do you mean you need to see my ID?! This is 'Murica!!") they probably don't give a rat's receptacle where you keep it.

You need better velcro. Just got home & peeled the tablet (which remained exactly where I put it this morning) off the mount (velcro stayed securely glued to both the mount and the back of the tablet)...then zapped the temperature of the mount.

I don't have AC in my truck.

Did you put a "foot" on that mount you welded up?

I just stuck Velcro on the dash.
Without vertical support the weight of the tablet slowly pulls the Velcro down.

I know I took pictures of it in place, and I can't find it now. Sheesh.

Found it (on another forum no less)

So it's a 7" tablet mounted on a sizable blank area under the radio and above the HVAC. It seems like no two Freightliners are alike and half of our trucks have some sort of "option" mounted right in the middle of that space. (Airbag dump valve, fuel Econ gauge, brake pressure gauge, suspension air gauge.) It's like every single truck got a different option and all of them are mounted in a way to make that space useless.

I got fog lamps. Yay me!

So it actually looks like a center console touch screen that modern cars have. Which is nice. And it's very disappointing that the latest trucks haven't begun to adapt this architecture. Because no matter how pretty your show truck is, your going to be mounting crappy brackets, mounts, Velcro and sticky stuff we hope is glue every where.

And again the other problem is it has to be charging 65% of the time.

(PS: I prefer vertical, but I can also mount it in landscape orientation too.)

Yes..."just in case"...but I keep the tablet off that foot so that the vibrations of the truck don't scratch the heck out of the tablet.

...just thought of something, too. We've had issues getting adhesive mounts to adhere to the dash in our Suburban. It's EXTREMELY difficult to get the surface absolutely clean, especially if anyone has ever used armorall or any similar product on it, and even the slightest bit of oil or dirt will affect the ability of whatever you're trying to stick up there in place. That welded up mount was new metal, then cleaned before industrial grade velcro applied. Same with the case I've got the tablet in. Opened up the package, cleaned the surface, and stuck the velcro to it.
