I know lots of folks my age (mid 40’s) around here that’s been in the oilfield all their working lives. A lot of them have some really nice homes/properties/farms. Not to mention all the toys. The smart ones don’t get this stuff repo’d in a downturn, cuz they bought it with cash. They ran hard, made sacrifices, didn’t cut it no slack, and then were smart with the money so they could reap the rewards later.
I’ve only known a couple guys that ever worked for companies such as Swift. Both quit cuz it was costing almost as much as their checks to eat and be comfortable on the road.
Frac sand opportunity, too good to be true?

I'm in a town full of busted out oilfield workers.
When the goings good they buy everything they can.
As soon as those checks stop here comes the repo
Man followed by a moving van.
It's like clock work.
Till they finally get fed up and go get a regular job. -
That's just natural selection at work, I'm grateful for the opportunity to make good money in exchange for my labor. I choose to save and accrue my money, it's not my business what everyone else does with theirs.
Also I worked at Swift, lmao at making a career out of there. It really is funny how clueless truckers who haven't worked oil are about the o & g industry. The fact you live in an old boomtown doesn't matter, you could have a room at a refinery and you still wouldn't understand it until you do it.
Is personal responsibility no longer a thing?RockinChair and RubyEagle Thank this. -

It’s the fellas that float into town on a breeze every time oil goes up a few bucks. Companies start hiring and these folks move down here from all over the place. Finally see what a good paycheck looks like and don’t know how to handle it. -
