Owner operators delivering for amazon prime?

Im hearing online in ZH and a few other sources last two days how the employees in a 700,000 SQ half mile facility 4 stories high have just two bathrooms down 4 flights of a corner stairs in the far corner. With supervisors counting the minutes they need to get all the way down there, eliminate and then walk all the way back up there. They started peeing into jugs now.

Not the sort of place I would want to work at. First it's sleeping standing up, second it's delivery van drivers who throw stuff onto yards as they drive by unable to stop a minute and now this.

Curious what does the contractor / business owner typically get paid per mile or is it per load? Does the contractor get any benefits for his drivers?

Today is my first, and last time delivering to an Amazon DC. Here in Tracy CA, it took over ONE HOUR to get from my orginal starting point, halfway up their driveway, 6 trucks back (two lanes wide), up TO the guard shack. Then after I was checked in (now already 30 minutes late for appt) I was told I could not pull in until they move the single, lone, and apparently MAGIC orange cone in front of me. It seems that it would be highly dangerous for me to pull in while they are busy checking in the truck in that other lane, 10' away from my right door. So a mere additional 12 minutes later I was allowed to enter. By the time you find your dock (no signs) unhook (again, for the safety of Darwin's finest) and park, I checked in over 45 minutes late despite arriving a full hour early. And they have the Idle Gestapo that walks around making AlGore proud. I still have not left yet, so this can only get worse. I have already notified my dispatch that I will return to the yard and clean out my truck before I ever let them send me here again, even if it is world's fastest live unload I've ever witnessed. Based on reviews, it won't be.

 

Well that sounds about what I would guess it to be like.

Pretty funny how people keep asking the same question on the thread that HAS THE ANSWER SPELLED OUT CLEAR AS DAY.
