    I call BS.

And if you know the secret to all that 'old iron getting modern day fuel numbers, you're in the wrong line of work, cause any of the mega's, especially someone like TMC that has all 389s, would write you a 7 figure check for your info, cause they'll make that back in a few months.

    Calling BS.

If all the 'old iron is so reliable, all the big boys would use it.

    Yep......
But like my dad used to say, "it's your story, you can tell it any way you want."

Call bs all you want, only thing it means is you don't know anything about a 12.7 or n14 powered hood. The secret is have a driver that cares. That's impossible for a big fleet. No secret to it, just drive it with a brain instead of a guy that likes to pretend he is in nascar.

Vans are extremely easy to get good fuel mileage with. The freight is hidden from the wind, so all ya gotta do is get low rolling resistant tires, side skirts and close that tailer gap.

Open deck freight in the other hand, nothing you can do. Some loads will just suck the fuel down. If i didn't pull over sized loads i would put a Conestoga kit on just for the fuel savings.

Like i said before, if you like new trucks that's fine, nothing wrong with your choice. But to make up reasons that they are "better" is ridiculous.

No, you just said you could get 8 with Old Smokey irregardless of trailer.

Now I started in '05 with a Century with a 60, and averaged almost 7 with them, and people were blown away.

My wrench is a 60 freak, so I'm gonna say I do know a little.

And that your full of crap saying you can get those fuel numbers with an antique.

At first but i thought it went up when he pulled the headache rack off and was able to close the trailer gap. I will have to ask him again.

I have a van and a flat. Hands down its easier to get better mpg with my flat.

No i didn't. I said my fuel went down very little switching from a columbia to this hood. You then asked about vans, so i responded with this truck gets 8 pulling a newer van specced for fuel mileage. The columbia got about .5 mpg better, which coincidentally is the same number the manufacturer engineers state is the difference between hood and aero in every article i have read.

Running empty and low profile freight sure, but with ugly non aero freight?

Edit to add: the best mileage i ever have gotten(besides dhing with the flat) is during ups season and i get a newer swift trailer. The worse is when i get a set of pups heading west into a strong headwind. 4 mpg here we come! I also saw 4 once with a wide load earlier this year going into nm. 50 mph headwinds suck. Double suckage is getting shut down at the port of entry for high winds.
