I haven't seen anywhere explaining what actually happened. .. XPO warehouses are the safest places I've ever unloaded or loaded at... Always wearing hi-vis, never left unsupervised, you will not be out of sight, exc, exc...

Until I hear what happened -I'm assuming that 2 people were tasked with a job they couldn't handle. You don't just get crushed to death inside a trailer....doesn't happen. Broken bones-maybe occasionally, but what exactly happened?

I won’t speculate on this specific accident, but I’ve seen two types of loading long flat freight. The skid is tipped on its side and strapped to the wall, or its loaded flat on load deck beams, and guys are too lazy to get the long forks, so the skid pitches forward as it’s pulled off the rack.

I'm not interested in badmouthing anyone who makes a mistake and gets killed- but I've hauled some very odd freight. And seen some well intentioned people who can't operate a hand jack...much less a forklift. Also have seen a lot of people who are full of confidence but have zero common sense.
Not saying that all the dispatchers and truck drivers are geniuses either! But there are more hungover people running forklifts than commercial vehicles.
Regardless, apparently the 2 that were 'crushed' were unloading corian slabs according to another report...generally up to 800 pounds...basically solid surface countertop...
My next question is; how do you get 2 people smashed by 800 pound sheets of fake granite? Must have been stacked poorly- but how many can you stack?

There obviously was a severe lack in judgement somewhere -but I don't like that this thread blames anybody but the people who took on a job and screwed up. #### happens- but accountability has to be taken by the loader of the material. ..or the shifted load by the driver...or the jerk that cut the driver off...or the unloader of the awkward load...
The dispatcher wasn't there to inspect the load....the shipper packages for transport. ..the warehouse pools the load-that's it. Their job is to get it on the correct outbound truck-that's it.

Stay out of the line of fire.
    Have an escape route.
If it looks sketchy it probably is,walk away and form a new plan.
Sad 2 men died from a mishap

    Woodys and Feedman Thank this.

I see this type of freight alot. It's mostly 3rd party garbage because flatbed rates have gone through the roof in the past couple of years and it's alot harder to get a truck now than it used to be. I had half a load of tote bins last week I had to tailgate to the back of the trailet with a pallet jack. Each was pushing over 3.5k lbs. Guy said they used to always come in on a flatbed but they can't find trucks to haul it.

That’s still a hell of a lot safer and easier to handle than 12’ long skids of Corian sheets.

I use to deliver to a flooring distributor that specialized in granite, corian sheets. They were unloaded off of flatbed trucks using a clap attachment on the forklift.....

You can't unload a trailer this way for obvious reasons. This video shows how unsafe it would be unloading a trailer of slabs. If that tilted over, it can definitely do some damage if someone was standing next to it.....

    Sad news overall. RIP :(
