    Perhaps ... buy a bus ticket across the nation. Stay awake, alert and seated for 10 hours stretches. At the rushed breaks, grab a fast-food option, hurry, get back on the bus and continue. This is honestly not too far off from OTR trucking lifestyle, the primary difference is that you'd be alone in a truck while it's moving but the time spent at the bus break stops will not be too far off from what you'll experience at a typical truck stop.

    Trucks are fairly comfortable to spend 10 hours a day [inside of a 14 hour window] but if you have to stop every few hours for whatever reason, OTR or regional trucking may not be good fit for you.

    Why would a working driver want a stranger in his truck? What's in it for him?

    In other words pick up a hitch hiker sure pal best off buying a bus ticket. Perhaps some O/O may attempt to do it although it could and would effect their insurance too. All's well and good to pick someone up until something goes wrong then the really appreciative passenger turns sour and is only to willing to sue the unfortunate truck driver so that's a big reason why you'll not get alot of takers on this idea.

    Do you like listening to radio all day ? Do you like the idea of driving all day and driving out west ? Do you like the adventure of going to new places and never knowing exactly were your going next and seeing some place new ? Do you like being alone ?

    Then you are ready to drive a truck. You can learn how drive and handle a truck. I always like driving thru Montana and North Dakota.

    Just for the record being a simple O/O is NOT enough to legally allow a passenger in interstate operations. Not meaning to start a font war but this is a common myth. YOU MUST BE RUNNING YOUR OWN NUMBERS.

    §392.60

    §392.60 Unauthorized persons not to be transported.
    (a) Unless specifically authorized in writing to do so by the motor carrier under whose authority the commercial motor vehicle is being operated, no driver shall transport any person or permit any person to be transported on any commercial motor vehicle other than a bus. When such authorization is issued, it shall state the name of the person to be transported, the points where the transportation is to begin and end, and the date upon which such authority expires. No written authorization, however, shall be necessary for the transportation of:

    (1) Employees or other persons assigned to a commercial motor vehicle by a motor carrier;

    (2) Any person transported when aid is being rendered in case of an accident or other emergency;

    (3) An attendant delegated to care for livestock.

    (b) This section shall not apply to the operation of commercial motor vehicles controlled and operated by any farmer and used in the transportation of agricultural commodities or products thereof from his/her farm or in the transportation of supplies to his/her farm.
