What cat? There's a big difference in different cats.
All this talk about mpg, yes fuel costs money so does downtime even if you dont have to spend a dime on repairs. Modern engines come with a bunch of extra stuff that has nothing to do with more hp or mpg yet if it breaks the truck stops.

They handle different that's for sure. They jump all over the place when someone passes you, which could explain why most Volvo drivers go so fast.

Amazing contrasts in this thread. One guy says the 680 rode like a Pinto, the other a BMW.

Ask a hundred different truckers and you'll get a hundred different opinions, all of them right.

Mechanics have a term "Specific to driver".
That's where you're taking wrench for a ride and going "Hear it? Can't you hear it??" or "Feel it? Can't you feel it???"

579/T680. And that's the thing, you either have to DROP the transmission, which takes a ton of labour time, or open the floor. 379's and 389's have a convenient cover over the transmission, making it easy to access from the cab without dropping it.

I preferred the way my Pinto handled over most 4 wheelers produced by BMW at that time. At that time (early 80s) BMWs had higher top speed and slightly better acceleration.

Ride quality is too subjective.... I prefer 1/2 ton pickups over Caddies.

I was going to comment that what years' engines they are makes a difference, but Zev sorta covered that.
