In 1971 we were pulling 35',38',40',and some 42' trailers, almost every state was still 55' overall,73280 gross.

Not out west. I remember as a kid when you crossed the Missouri you pulled over and slid the fifth wheel. Missouri itself allowed 65' for truck and trailer. My dad pulled a boat trailer with one on a custom built rack. The last trip he took with the truck, they took the rack off, and then the scale wouldnt let him pass because they considered it a tractor-trailer.

As I said, almost every state,Mo. was one of the few central states that allowed truck and trailer (dromedary) set-ups. States around Mo. were still 55',including Ark.,Ia, Ky.,Il.,Tn. Some states were very lax on 55' enforcement, some were extremely hard. Tennessee was very tough on length, paid my share of those there, $57.25 a clip for over 55'.

Learned and tested in a cabover.

Drove one for a month at CRST.

I liked cabovers just fine, until I drove a conventional.

I liked the view from a cabover, and I like how they look. I would love to have one to take to ATHS shows. But I don't want to take one OTR daily anymore.

As previously discussed elsewhere the closest thing you can get to a cabover nowadays is a Freightliner Argosy and even then only as a glider kit here in the U.S.(Freightliner still builds complete trucks at the Cleveland,N.C. plant and exports them to right hand drive markets in Australia,New Zealand & South Africa).Originally the EPA put the screws to the glider market because of the emissions being released by the older engines but the outgoing director of the EPA relaxed a loophole recently-and some folks weren’t to happy about it (UPS and Volvo in particular). Unlike older cabover models the Argosy can be had with the same suspension components (Airliner suspension in particular)you’ll find on a conventional Cascadia or Coronado. And in Australia’s case some of the newer Argosy models sold there use DEF(they call it AdBlue) and they can be had with a automatic transmission (sigh). Australians love them and find them useful though (does that mean here in the U.S. we’re a bunch of snowflakes?).

And this one is an honorable mention because it’s a celebrity(guaranteed to solve road rage problems real quick).

This looks cool. Can you provide pic when the paint is finished? Did you do anything to upgrade the motor, suspension, and transmission?
