I Graduated 4th in my class with a 89.5 GPA. i can side step back (dock) better then most with 15 years under there belt. my last instructor had little over 40 years under his belt and bragged about being one of the best at parallel parking a 18 wheeler. i beat him on my 2nd day out in the yard. i can parallel park a 18 wheeler like i do my 05 impala 96% on the 1st try. i have to pull up once to side step back (dock). but then again. drivin is something like some would say. i been wanting to do just never had the chance to get it done. until dec of last year. now im waiting on western to get a trainer open so i can go there in 2 to 3 weeks. so not all of us newbs are dumb. and not all of us don't know how to hold the road. my road test for the state i got 92% on it. so i think im pretty good just to be starting out. also most rookies like me. just want to be like the rest of the drivers out here. yeah most of my class won't make it long. but im in it for the long haul.

WoW....... well i've been here in these forums for a couple weeks now. Good job folks, a plethera of information. Boy oh boy was I ever disillusioned.
Hiring area restrictions, trainee pay, actual pay, companies that will actually hire new drivers, etc. etc...
I've paid for my school, gotten my license, decided to shut down my shop, started actually looking for a job..... then....reality sets in !! Make a list.. companys you want to work for.... hmmmm....... none take noobs...... companys that take noobs........ hmmmmm ...... short list...... companys hiring in FL on that short list....... bloody double hmmmmm.......... then *%&##........ hmmmmm...... make apps ...... hmmmm ......... knock off half of those, no longer hiring in FL..... you guessed it.. hmmmmm and *%&## .... down to 3 now...... can I hear an OH *%&## !!! Class is full till March 9, sorry, that'll put you beyond your 30 days from school compleation. !! ......... hmmmmmm........ 2 left ........ call us in march some time. Hmmmmm.
Well, there is that one.......... They would hire me. Right from the start even. First one I called and applied to before I even came up with this whole list idea.
Whatever ya'll say.... Werner was my first contact, told me they would put me to work in my time frame, and it seems the only one that will hire to train a noob in my area. I gotta say..... thank you Werner!!!
I hope you are all deadly wrong about them, and that i'm the 1 in 150 that gets along well there. Bus ticket in hand and off we go.
I wont need luck..... I'll be that 1. -
Scary, huh? But you know what? You could very well be right! Attitude will be your best friend by far. You are going to read a lot of negatives and some positives about Werner, HOWEVER.... If you can get the miles, pay the bills, and put food on the table, isnt that what really matters?
I haven't worked for Werner, but I have done some looking into them for friends. And although you can get yourself into trouble by not following the "letter of the law" (isn't that really just about everywhere?), you can do well if you work with your dispatcher and fleet manager (if that is what Werner calls them).
Look towards the positive aspect.... you are going to be a Big Truck Truck Driver! Put in your time (6 mos - 1 yr) and then decide what you want to do. Who knows? You may do quite well and want to stay on board. Move forward, look forward and enjoy it as you may. There are a lot of opinions out there.... but when it comes down to it, yours is the one that counts, right?
Have safe travels!cpassey and PharmPhail Thank this.
