Got a message over the qualcom this afternoon stating that, due to the current state of the economy, Star would no longer provide tuition reimbursements. I had to read this twice to be sure they weren't just going to cease offering it to new drivers.. no, they're shafting current drivers by not following through on their promise to repay CDL school tuition.

Granted, $125 a month isn't much, but given their crappy miles there's been several times that made the difference between my getting a paycheck or not. Considering this along with their recent $3.00/hour idling charge, I'm just glad I'm getting away from this cheesy outfit before they tell me to bring my own fuel.

sounds about right!! covenant Co. spillover.
seems if YOU signed a contract, THEY would have something to fulfill on THEIR end.
    I would seek an attorney!:biggrin_25512:

    .
I don't know if an attorney would help. Unless you was able to do a Class Action. There isn't enough recovery for an attorney to do it for a percentage on just one claim.

I was sitting here last night, wondering when this shoe would drop. Well I got my answer it seems.

For the new driver, with no experience, who hired on at a reduced rate of pay plus the tuition deal. This amounts to a .04 per mile CUT in pay, on an already suck ### rate. Based on a $200 per month loan payment.

I could go on forever with the "I told you so". But I won't.

I really feel for you new guys right now. As many are coming in on a wing and a prayer. Hoping to be able to provide for a wife and family. Then getting this $### pulled on you.

It's just not right !! You were already getting screwed 7 ways from hell, now this.

$3.00 an hour to idle your truck? You must be kidding. Drivers just need to all quit and get a job 9-5 doing anything. Minimum wage is almost as good as what a trucker makes per hour. Hell most any job involving tips will get you $35K a year or better. Wait tables, deliver pizza, bartend, etc. Let the people who cant do anything else drive trucks.

My daughter got a job straight out of high school. She brings home $200 and some change every week, and all meals regardless of where she eats, are paid without question. All her fuel cost are paid too. All of it, not just business. She has a company card to pay for all her gas.

She got a Christmas bonus of $500, after only 6 months on the job. She has been on paid "mini-vacations", where her boss paid for the trip AND her regular payroll while she went.

On top of all this. She will get a raise this year, of about $150. She will be eligible to participate in "drill depth and most holes" bonuses. 2 separate bonuses, that totaled over $6K this past December.

And the crew with the lowest meal expenses for the year, gets an additional bonus (split equally), equivalent to the difference in the highest meal expense crew.

Once you add all her perks up...She makes #### near as much as I do every week. And has better job security too. Thanks to Al Gore.

I dont know what your contract says but if you have one read it over you might not need an attorney, you can do small claims yourself and the expense to file is minimal...in my state I think the cap is 3000.00 but it is worth looking into.

    panhandlepat Thanks this.
