I am in the drivers apprentice program at fed ex freight. I have my CDL but no practice so this so far is a perfect fit for me. The people are honestly so good. Last week was my first week on the dock and I was with a trainer for the first half, and then alone for the rest. So many people stopped and asked if I needed help to build a deck or change out the propane. Or just to give advice and hints as how to do the job easier.
    So far so good.

Congrats on the new position! That's cool that everybody is being helpful. What propane needed to be changed?

Is that like a dock worker to driver program? Do they train you/get you driving experience for part and then have you work the dock for the other part, or do you have to work as a dock worker for a certain amount of time and then moving onto training for cdl/driving experience?

It is called drivers apprentice program. Some people just have their CDL permits when they begin, others like me already have their CDL with all the endorsements. As far as I know, everyone has to do a certain amount of dock work during the training.
You start in the classroom for over a week, then move onto the dock where they train you with forklift work. Now I am back in the classroom for another 2 weeks and splitting my shift with the dock. After the next 2 weeks, I hope to be with a driver instructor for about 3 weeks.

Good luck. I started last week and got through my DDC book already and got the first two weeks of freight handling boarding process. Went to start week 3 today and can't til next Monday. Hopefully get my forklift certification tomorrow and can start working dock, otherwise not sure what I will do for a week

How long after your interview did it take for them to get back to you?

When I interviewed, I was told verbally that they were going to hire me and I received the offer letter two days later.
