You may wind up doing what I'm doing. Taking some time off, until a company schedules an orientation date.

I know that's not a good thing, for some people. But those of us who can, will just ride it out.

I'm not finding many of the larger companies that are actively bringing in drivers for orientation.

I'm finding jobs, that's not the issue. But many of those jobs, I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. POS equipment etc etc

Air freight is down by 23%. I don't know the exact numbers for OTR freight. But it has to be big, to affect Air Freight in this manner.

Produce will pick up in another month or so. And companies will be hiring drivers left and right, for a short period.

Just hang on if you can......

its tough to say right now, you may just want to hang tight right now, maybe look for a loca job ** non cdl local job ** till things pick back up again.
but you may find a company, i no western is still taking people, browse around on here, you MAY luck out. but it all depends on your background

    Try TANKER

I know its not FLAT, VAN, REEFER but it is a cool deal... RAW materials CHEMICAL tank is the most money. But food grade is ok altough it pays a little less.

    Companies hiring

SUPERIOR CARRIERS (my company best pay package in tank industry)
CARRY TRANSIT (owned by SUPERIOR CARRIERS our food grade div)

    others

    MILLER TRANSPORT
    INDIAN RIVER
    BYNAM
    OAKLEY
    HIGHWAY TRANSPORT

They are all hiring I can tell you SUPERIOR CARRIERS is owned by
SBL (SUPERIOR BULK LOGISTICS) they own SUPERRIOR and CARRY and own the BULK DIVISION where we do haul flour, etc and have a few PNEUMATIC trailers very few and are dedicated . the bulk division also runs RAIL, and PORT freight also

I will give you some pay for SUPERIOR CARRIERS (chemical)

    20 load
    20 unload
    10 bunk pay each night
15 border cross (paid in and out)
    10 drop
    10 hook
    hrly pay 13.34
    41.5 loaded
    34.5 mt
37.50 per wk benefits (family) 80/20 BCBS dental w/orthadonics scripts
    restart pay (hrly) no cap
    layover (hrly) no cap
20 tank wash or drop hook pay depends (same either way)
    free uniforms
    log LEGAL
    pants allotment 75 per yr

    CARRY TRANSIT (foodgrade)

    38.0 loaded
    31.0 mt

GREAT atomsphere and GREAT people ... they care about their drivers if you want some more info just PM me I am just passing on information .. But remember this is tank so it is a different world but I would never do anything else.

    TURNOVER % YEARLY

    SUPERIOR = 19%

    CARRY = 23%

    * includes retirement, transfer divisions (food grade to chemical), death, fired, quit, ***

if not included I would say just by quitting i would say it would be less than 5% for both got folks that switch divisions allot and retirment has hit them hard lately so number are up a bit ....

anyway I sound like a recruiter I AM NOT I am a COMPANY driver for SUPERIOR ...

Let me know if you want any more info I dont know much about the other companies listed above...

Have a good relationship with my dispatcher, and we were talking the other day, and he says we are hiring. No layoffs planned, considering we posted a 4th qtr profit for 2008:biggrin_25525:
