What am I missing?

You'd better ask our friend 1POD about Landstar and some of those carriers. I don't know where you are but I am really sure there is some small carrier who would hire you as an O/O in your area. Or find a good experienced driver to go along with you for awhile until you get your feet wet. Someone who will show you the ropes and let you learn while you both make a few dollars. Then go out on your own. Too bad you arent in my neighborhood we could sit down, have coffee and look at your options.

 

Well, this is just how I am. Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. I'm not broke, yet, but as the president of my own personal nation, swift and decisive action is needed.

Failure happens, but I do not fear it.

Besides, I went to an accredited trucking school. At best with a company I'll have someone to babysit me for a day then I'd just be teaming and doing everything myself anyway. Watkins Shepard sends newbs out on thier own after the first week. And as far as the business stuff goes, as a company driver you never really learn that anyway, so I dont' think I'm missing out on much to be honest.

I also manage my risk with good credit avenues. I'm not going to get stranded or lose my truck anytime in the first year, even if I'm amassing debt, and I'm pretty sure I can be profitable in short time anyway.

My biggest fear is downright terrible luck, like that major breakdown in the first month. I will be wearing myself pretty thin if that happens.

I am also exploring other job avenues even with some members here with PM's, but so far nothing has really panned out. I just can't rely on outside forces to make things happen for me.

I would love any ideas and options you are aware of for me as an O/O though! (or a job lol)

the only bad thing is the 5k truck gana last a year and dam i need a new job i am a mechanic trying ta go o/o agen but seem ta still be a mechanic ta make my pay need ta do some thing im dieing for pay now was trying ta go o/o with my truck but back ta working for the only buck i can git

Newbee's got this fantasy in there head...Thats why i am at home these days.Trucking has become a sitting game...and no pay for it...just sit there and shut up....i feel your pain

 

Don't fool yourself! Most companies out here try to tell you they are not force dispatch but turn down a load and see how long you sit before they offer you another load. Now thats mostly with van companies or companies that you pull their trailer not your own. In steel hauling you very rarely run into this but some still try.
