I had a charge brought up against me right after driving school over a year and 1/2 ago, it took over 90 days to convince the court that it was frivolous and was dismissed. I had to drive for a drive-away company picking up Rigs that were being voluntarily given up back to the banks. Hardly made enough money to live for 6 months, BUT I racked up 80,000 miles with them..... With the miles that I got and the experience in ALL types of transmissions and trucks, I was hired into a small co. on the spot.
You have to be creative, trust me.

HMJ, have you tried waste management? Job security is the goal now in this market. Look into trash and food service delivery. Good money in each and they will always be there. People eat and make trash. And get your TWIC card. Big money on the port. Saw one today paying 20$ - 30$ an hour starting out.

Call them and talk to them yourself. Ask for Connie in recruiting. I am on the phone with a close friend of mine who has 6 trucks leased on there. He told me that he just hired a trainee last week to go into the seventh truck that he is planning to buy shortly.

Maybe you need to find the fleet owner to work for first, then go through them to get hired by the company. I'm just saying, I know it can be done and they are still hiring students despite of what you guys are being told.

Just thinking aloud; Maybe they aren't hiring anyone from outside schools. They have their own in-house training school where they crank out 6 new students per month(only one class at a time and lasts 3.5 weeks). This could be an explanation.

Do a google search on Drive-away Trucking. and start calling. Not much money in it though, I would try to start in the Garbage or food then maybe try Beer distribution and Pop or bread.

I'm going to make a guess that your address in Florida is the problem. Most companies, especially dry van, try to avoid going down into Florida, even when the economy was good, because it is/has been a dead end. When they send a truck down to Miami, odds are they are going to have to dead-head the driver out. Your problem is you are going to cost them big bucks to get you home for time off. I suggest you use a relative or friend's address in another state, or maybe drive up to GA and get a P.O. box and try those companies again.
