I won't defend them all, just my part of it. I drove for Swift for four years , two years as a driver trainer. I'm a 20 plus year driver with a perfect safety record. I had to throw two drivers off my truck just for not being able to do the job. every morning they woke up was just like they had never seen a truck before, we would have to start right from the get go. The problem with Swift is their training program. hen I worked there the program consisted of six to eight weeks with one trainer. Now they have traines training trainees, IT CAN'T WORK!!!! Swift needs to start worring about the safety of the people on the highway instead of their "bottom line" I quit them in 98 after they started "looping" their L.A. loads.

I agree driver I haven't been driving that long but after talking to drivers in terminals andasking how long they've been with swift and now they are a trainer I started to wonder. They had less experience than I and I said to myself WTF. Needless to say I am now an EX Swift Driver.

now i see why alot of swift drivers wonder why im on this site and now i wonder why myself, heck even the administrators on this site bash swift, you know i hate to see anyone lose there job but swift is a strong company, and just like in any industry the biggest company finishes on top sad to say but true, i come from a small town with lots of small buisness and i know these people, but when mcdonalds and burgerking came in mom and pops restraunt closed, sad but it is buisness, now all the older small buisness owners hate these national chains that have came in, i see this here, all it is is pure jelousy, all this smack talk of swift and safety is b.s., lets put 26000 drivers on with mom and pops truckin' and see what happens, heck we will even do this with central reefer, or some other, godly company, and see what happens, and i would like to give kudos to paw paw for seeing the big picture, thank you PAW-PAW.

Just to throw in my 2 cents worth...stay there a year get your experience then move on over to the mom and pop trucking companies just like most other swift drivers do...You will eventualy get tired of being on the road for MONTHS at a time and might like some time at home. Heck you might even want some respect Wouldnt it be nice to actually TALK to a dispatcher or maybe the owner of the company when you make a check in call, instead of doing everything through a qual com...OH and talking a about qual com the little tattle tale machine... I have over 20 years out here and Have NEVER WORKED for a company that had more than 100 trucks.....Yes there is something to be said for major corporations and the BIG COMPANIES but there WILL ALWAYS be a mom and pop place in business too.. and you will eventually look to move to the mom and pop places ,,,,its just a matter of time,

So if "most other Swift drivers" leave after a year for the mom and pops, why are there so many multi-year Swift drivers here? And if the mom and pops were the best place to be, why have I talked to several Swift drivers who went to the mom and pops and have come back to Swift? To each his own but today most shippers are looking to the bigger companies for stability in the freight solution. By the way, I am writing this from home on hometime after two weeks out. And before I left the terminal I talked with my driver manager.

Most people here, like yourself, who claim to be multi-year Swift drivers, are actually company officials, brown-nosing drivers or managment furious that someone is publically speaking the truth about Swift.

"To each his own but today most shippers are looking to the bigger companies for stability in the freight solution."

Oh yeah, because we all know how much big shippers love huge disorganized outfits that deliver stuff on time maybe 50% of the time if they're lucky. From what I've heard, most of the huge outfits like Swift won't even guarantee ontime delivery. That's why even at large shippers you see plenty of medium to small size companies' drop trailers parked right next to your Swift dragon wagon. And plenty small mom and pop outfits live loading. When they need stuff done and done right, they would rather deal with a real trucking outfit they can depend on.

"By the way, I am writing this from home on hometime after two weeks out. And before I left the terminal I talked with my driver manager."

Ooooooooo~!!!! Looky here!!!! Homeboy got hisself some hometime! So how many days... cough.... I mean hours are you home for?

Real trucking companies don't have driver managers, they're called dispatchers. And where I work they don't hide behind reinforced glass. So I could reach out and smack them anytime, not that I'd want to. Real trucking outfits also do not get raided and shut down by federal agents for hiring illegals, like what happened to Swift in Memphis. I almost made the mistake of training and signing on with Swift myself 7 years ago. Then I did the right thing and actaually did some research.

There is a reason Swift and the like have the horrible reputation they do. I hope 500 other sites like this one pop up. After years of ruining the lives of thosands upon thousands of drivers they are just beginning to get what they deserve. But hey, like you said, to each his own. See you in the slow lane Swifty.
