Well, as stated earlier, today I had to go in and finish out my 2.5 hours of driving to get my CDL School Diploma. And I did just that. It was really tempting to sleep in this morning, but I didn't want to prolong it anymore (nor did I want to tick off the school).

And when I got in, I was tickled to find out I was going to be with Wayne on the Freightliner. Nothing against any of the other instructors by no means, but Wayne and I get along quite well, and I "understand" him very well.

We went down and did some "touch and go" parking at rest stops and did a bunch of highway driving and downshifting. And his methods of teaching go hand in hand with my methods of driving, so we basically worked on improving my skills. And it went wonderfully!

SO! I am free to move to the next level of my adventure. I am scheduled to start orientation next Monday, and lots to do between now and then.

For those of you getting ready to start going to school, for what my advice could be, do NOT assume anything, other than you WILL learn to drive all over again. I consider myself a good driver (POV) and others have told me the same, but when it comes to driving a Big Truck, you are stepping into an entirely new world. NOTHING is like you would have imagined, and you quickly learn that 4-wheelers have very very little respect for what you are doing. You MUST be very diligent at all times. If you are not willing to accept that, you might want to consider driving a bread truck.

In closing (and I know I have said this a thousand times), thanks to EVERYONE who has offered advice and wisdom. Whether or not you know it, you DID make the difference for me. You gave me the best thing any student could possible have from the git-go....."Eyes Wide Open".

As soon as I get going on the next phase, I'll get another thread going....

Oh, I know....... AND I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!!!!

I have a buddy there already and he says he has a GREAT trainer and is learning daily. I can only pray for the same thing. I have had many people tell me the real training starts when you get out on a real truck run, so I think I have my head in the right place.

Now I just have to get rid of some of this "useless information" I have saved over the years to make room for all this new stuff..... ehehehehehe

    Thanks Buddy!

    Hey there Bill!

Ya know, I am not sure..... there are a few people that are there (or were there) that ad experience in the past, but I never really got a chance to talk to them much. Probably your best bet would be to call up there and talk to Charlie. He would be the one to answer that.

    Good luck!
