Hello all,
It happened to be that in the last year there's way more small accidents happening at the company I drive for. A reason came up that it might be due to more stress or pressure caused by E-log.
What do you think, are there more drivers hearing their company complaining about more accidents. Are you more stressed?
Thanks in advance, Wim

IF there is more stress, then that means the company office is still pushing the drivers to, to be nice, bend HOS laws. Go work for a company that runs legal and there will be no stress from eld.

It's stressful when you find out the load dosn't pay what it actually takes to get it there. it isn't elogs giving you stress, it's running more for less.
Time to wake up.Trucker61016, 06driver, Bank_Lbr and 3 others Thank this. -
The HOS as written is actually more dangerous probably than if we didn't have any rules at all. What it does is encourage people to drive when their logs say they can drive, regardless if they are tired or not. E-logs probably make it a little worse because people can't "fudge" as easy.
The main problem is the 14 hr rule. In a ideal world, people would drive when they felt rested and rest when they got tired. If the powers that be think that because they have a HOS and E-logs people aren't driving tired, are fooling themselves. Everybody out on the road and you see at truck stops looks tired.singlescrewshaker, Wim and TheyCallMeDave Thank this. -
fair they say?
15 minutes left, 8 miles from our terminal... fair they say.
Never have I been the one to gun it.. but fair they say.... i'm gunning it to make it to our yard within 15 minutes in 8 miles.... plan better they say...? FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Truck driving is not for everyone.
You gave it a try and couldn’t cut it. That’s nothing to be ashamed of.
But it’s time for the buttercups to find a new line of work. -
As for the OP, running onon elo don't cause me any more stress than running on paper logs do. You have these rules and you better learn to work within them. Remember these words when your under a load:
"The load will get there right after I do." -
Stuff happens and no flexibility, then you sit another 8 hrs for nothing more. Because of a few minutes lost taking a detour, or a maintenance issue, or a shipper or receiver having short hours the don't jibe with those of other places.
Darn ELD won't tell you where you're at unless it's a distance and direction from a population center of 6000 or more. Might be several roads and towns between where you're at and that point. Might be in another state. Don't know about near the Canadian border.singlescrewshaker and Wim Thank this. -
THAT'S all it is about.
If you want to solve all these issues, there are a couple things that can be done.
1 - return to the 1962 version with the latitude we need to make judgement calls on our own.
2 - promote rail freight more to eliminate the overcapacity in the OTR segment of the market. This will reduce the truck fleets to where the rates will go up and a lot of people will be happier.06driver, Bank_Lbr, Wim and 1 other person Thank this.
