Nice to know they got it. They didn't deign to respond to me, even with so much as a "we got your letter." I did what I did because I understood clearly that once I got off the truck after being told by the training director they were sending me home, that was that. I had no reason then to believe then he'd have changed his decision after that phone call, and I do not now. Further, considering that I was given an obviously incomplete reason for my termination, there was NO WAY I could compose a rational response to the issues that had been raised behind my back.
I should also close with this:
I never had enough of a problem with my trainer that I would have complained about him or asked for a new trainer if I'd thought I'd make it back to Jackson for upgrade. Yes, I had complaints and irritations, and we sort of rubbed each other the wrong way. And I cheerfully admit that some of my expectations may have been out of kilter with reality. I was, however, willing to live with all of these issues for another three weeks, because I thought, hey, after three weeks I'll be rid of this guy, and that will be that. While I think in some ways his behavior is inappropriate for a training situation (it's his truck, yes, but it's now also my office), it wasn't a big enough deal that I needed to make noise about it to management, since there was an end in sight.
My chief complaint about the experience, at this point, now having understood from RT more fully what led to my termination, was again, lack of communication from the trainer. I don't expect to be spoon-fed, but I do think it's fair that when my performance is not meeting expectations, I be informed of what the expectation is, and how my performance differs from what is expected. The only thing *I* ever heard was that my turns and mirror usage "needs work." I can hardly correct other performance deficiencies if I don't know they exist. I obviously didn't go into this trying to fail, and when I had questions, I asked them. And to be fair, except for the pre-trip issue, my trainer did answer my questions competently and clearly.
Even so, I stick to my assertion that I was terminated unfairly, because while apparently my performance was deficient, I was never informed of these deficiencies nor given an opportunity to correct them, and even when I was terminated by the training director, he gave me the turns-and-mirrors excuse, again not informing me fully of my deficiency, so I had no opportunity to answer it. I believe that it is fundamentally unfair to fire someone for a problem like that when it can be remedied during the training period with a simple discussion about expectations. It is inappropriate at best that I hear the real reasons behind my termination from RT (not her fault by any stretch, I appreciate her research and candor). That information should have come from my trainer when I had a chance to remedy the situation, or at the very least from the training director, so that I could answer them directly.

hi rn, are you going to go with another company? Does getting fired before up are upgraded affect you DAC report?
-
Road Thanks for your reply to rn's problem. I'm not going to take side's on any of this but I will just say that if you don't communitcate with your trainer than he/she doens't know what you are thinking. Also if RN did bring his laptop than that was wrong. You are going out there to get more training.
I'm just a student going thru driving school now and I know what to bring and what not to. I ask alot of questions. We also will be going over pre-trips and planning in school.
Rn I hope you don't take this personlly I'm just responding to what I have read and I just was pionting out my point of view. -

I'm sure that truckers do carry there laptops with them. But as a trainee you really should leave it at home while in training, after your training then that is up to you if you want to bring it.
I'm not trying to step on anyones toes just stating my OPION. -

I'll say this regarding laptops and training.
If you can use your laptop in moderation, then bring it along. However, if you're anything like I am and can't put this thing down until I've been on it for 6 hours or more, then you've got no business bringing it on your trainers truck. The same goes for any electronic device that could distract you away from your main goal of learning from your trainer.
I didn't even have a cell phone with me when I trained. I was also single and still don't have any kids of my own. If someone needed to get in touch with me (family emergency, etc.), all they had to do was contact my company and they'd send a message via Qualcomm.
Baack, leannamarie and lv gn Thank this. -

Hey all,
When I went into my CDL school today, my instructor informed me that KLLM is now on a hiring freeze until April 1st. Can anybody working at KLLM confirm this? I have a pre-hire with an orientation date set for March 2nd, but the recruiter told me that March 2nd is tentitive and could very well change. I'm wondering if it's been cancelled all togeather. I tried calling today but got a busy signal during the day, then got the after hours recording around 4pm central time. Now I'm all nervious!
I'll keep everyone posted if I hear any updates.Twisted turtle Thanks this.
