So I decided to leave a mega carrier after putting up with months of very low pay and lies being told on me by a fleet manager. This company really tried to kill my career before it really started. I rather not list the details but to make a long story short, they broke many promises and I couldn’t take it any more. So, I requested to go on home time as I had been out for 5 weeks and had not been home. I get 1 day home for week out. I choose to stay out 6-8 weeks and only take 1 or 2 days off just to get my hair done. I’ve never taken the full 6-8 days of home time I am entitled to for being OTR out for 6-8 weeks.

Anyways, I requested time off to gather myself after being let down once again by this company. I called my FM and told her I really needed time to gather myself and regroup. She denied my home time saying I needed to give her 7 weeks notice before home time. I told her that emotionally I was not in any shape to be driving as I couldn’t stop crying over how this company was treating me. She said I could not go home.

As I was delivering a load 25 miles from my home terminal, I decided enough was enough and I am quitting this company. I called my FM and told her that I was going to deliver the load I was under and head to my home terminal to turn in my keys, I’m done. She said 10/4.

Later that day, I get accepted to start orientation at another company. I’m sure this company called and verified my history with this company. They also called my friends.

Suddenly, my DriverTech shut down and I called to have it fixed. They said it would be up and running within a few minutes. I unplugged the unit and waited 10 minutes but it never came back up. I called my FM and she said, aren’t you quitting? I said yes. But I’m in the middle of delivering this load and need the DriverTech to document my elogs and delivery. She gave no response. I told her I’ll just have to call in when I deliver the load. She then said that she talked with her boss and they are going to hit me with job abandonment and hung up the phone.

I delivered the load a day early on time. Called the company and scanned my documents. Drove the tractor to the home terminal I’m assigned out of.

Will this go on my DAC report as an abandonment? I don’t care about ever returning to this company and never will. They pride themselves on people returning as they feel they are the best in the industry. But as I stated earlier, this company has tried to lock me in and now are trying to ruin me from working in this industry.

Job abandonment means you quit. Think about that for a minute.

Truck or load abandonment, yeah that would be a concern but not job abandonment.

I would tell your fm she abandoned you a long time ago and your gonna put that on her record! Then hang up on her.

Don't sweat it , there's no such thing as job abandonment.
Even if you misunderstood what was being said to you I wouldn't worry about it.
Good upstanding companies don't give a crap about DAC, they know scum companies streach the truth and even lie about the info.

Just make sure you keep the documentation that shows you delivered that load and also document that you turned in that truck to a working terminal.

Companies think of more silly crap to call stuff. I suppose if I got up from a meal in a restaurant, paid my bill and walked out the door, that could be considered "meal abandonment. :biggrin_25525:

This would be a great help to any newbies so they don't get stuck like you did.
7 WEEKS?! Maybe 7 days, 2 weeks for some oddball special appointment to be absolutely certain, but that's beyond ridiculous.
