That's what mine is. I think it will still run, but I don't like the hurt on the trucks electrical system.

When they go turn the key someday, usually in the winter and it goes clickity click click, then lesson is learned.

I have a 12v fridge in my truck have had it for 3 years works great. It's nice having ice in the freezer and all the cold stuff for day to day on the road. Never have any issues with truck starting. Although I only stay in the truck about twice a month the rest of the time it sits in my driveway plugged in with an extension cord. But when I first got the fridge I was on the road 3 nights a week and it did fine.

We had FFE's 7 supervisors in each division (Safety, DM, Dispatch et) sign a form that gave us explicit permission to at our expense and risk install a inverter on that company tractor at Freightliner. (So it's formally part of that particular tractor's records)

We put in a 2500 continuous and I think 4000 spike. Meaning if you start something huge like a fridge you are pulling a huge amount of wattage until the motor turns over and gets moving. Hopefully somewhere within the continuous rating. It had the precision output that computers like to drink on if necessary and (We ended up running the laptops off the dashboards inverter 300 watter off a 12 volt smoke lighter socket.

Due to my own paranoia I asked freightliner to install two sizes beefier than required for that amount of power and leave enough slack so that no matter what the tractor (Century 2000) does it will not rub on anything. They did a beautiful job at the Armarillo Freightliner behind the new TA on the south side central.

I usually ran the inverter to feed Mr Coffee. Once in a while a George forman. (Not too often) And it was there to open up a potential to run a chain saw of a patriot brand 1.5 horse power pulling 12 amps 120 volts off contractor extension cord (For clearing winter deadfall across roads in ice storms etc. or chopping smaller trees to fill a trenched pavement so that truck can get across. Since it was cold, leaving the side box open allowed the inverter to dump all the heat straight out to -10 or whatever outside.

Under more normal conditions running the inverter happened when we were at cruise and the voltmeter is at or near 15 volts. While it's going one of us stood firewatch on it and the driver monitored the voltage to be sure that it's running smooth. The truck never complained. It did however go through about 3 alternators per year. When you consider the amount of power pushed by these things it's amazing to behold when the alternator quits charging and we are on battery for a maximum of 3 hours or until below 11 volts whichever is first before reaching a repair shop. Below 10.5 the computer bricks, automatic computer bricks and the engine computer bricks. So we always wanted to be stopped, properly shut off before that 10.5 volts.

The one thing we found valuable was the display on the inverter that explained how well or how poorly it's feeling depending on the amount of "Draw" or load imposed on it. Most of the time we stayed in the green.

Yea, some of us aren't on paper, we don't get to run 24 and 7. We have to take actual breaks.
