well scania sold about 750-800 trucks in period from autumn of 1985 till end of 1992. they had 17 service points in north east of usa. HQ was in orange, CT. scania gave up from usa market in 1991, official statement was they need those production slots for other markets. but at that time ratio of $ to SEK was bad for scania, add import taxes add lack of brand loyalty, customers that buy only american made products, product that is not suitable for applications and final result is low sales numbers.
scania gave 2year of warranty after they withdrawn from market. services continued to work for few more years to support customers. scania also produced city buses in 5 years total 252 were made. both trucks and buses were ahead of its time. buses had 25% better fuel efficiency of competitors products.

750 to 800, and only about 300 left....

    HHHMMmmmmmm....

i guess the junkyards tell a bigger story then......

and a whopping 17 service centers only in the north east..??

what did some one in CA or WA do...ship them back to the east..???

i guess what we have here is a failure to maintain a level of dependable, trucks....

anyway most of scania trucks in USA were vocational trucks, back at that time comparing to other european trucks scania was not really suitable for that, and there was very low number of vocational scania trucks in europe at that time.
some of reasons: small overall ratio in gearbox, fragile driveline.
nervous engines with relatively low torque to hp ratio, at idle speed no power, big turbo, when turbo start to fill you get instant power that is unpredictable. that usually means wheelspin, once you get traction can easy break something in driveline. driver should be very careful operating scania in construction, on other brands it was matter of letting clutch, MB had engines with max torque at 800rpm back than.

even lightest vocational scania trucks were too strong(and heavy) for USA standards. lightest rear axles now are 51k.

not suitable for long distance rucks in USA.
Scania was not able to offer V8 engines due ecology. so they had max 341hp engine, 10 speed gearbox, no engine brake, small sleepers, even lightest spec scania that were not available in europe were way too heavy. max speed on 22.5 wheels was 65mph in economy rpm. scania offered 24.5 wheels but it was very rare.

very few, more vocational trucks. and almost all in north east. there is one guy in chicago who own now 7-8 trucks, he import one from europe that is about 10year old now. he use it to pull his own excavators so it is not for rent, he bought 4 long distance tractors from canada, few dump trucks

you are talking about trucks you have never seen.
scania back than was pretty much ahead of US trucks but unsuitable for USA conditions

there is a shop in newark NJ that buy them overhaul them and sell them again, he own scania race truck you can find it on yt. he import trucks from europe for parts, he have some sort of support of scania for his work. some of those trucks are break down for parts. most exported to paraguay. yes 17 services in north east. scania did not offer trucks in other parts of country.
