It sound like Abilene being cheap, not to sound harsh, but I believe this company will do whatever they can to not pay a driver.

    Whirlpool in Marion, OH?

Anyhow, I put in for one hour of detention last pay period and got it. Also put in for layover and got it, though I did not get the amount I think I should've gotten, and there will be a Phone Call(tm) tomorrow about it.

I have never gotten the feeling that Abilene is out to shaft their drivers, which is one of the reasons I have been happy to stay. There have been a couple of times that my DM has told me "We're going to pay you layover for this" when I didn't really think the situation called for it. (But hey, I ain't gonna argue.)

If it turns out that I'm going to lose detention just because the work spills over into my 10-hour break, then I'll just make sure to stay on-duty until the load is ready and not go on my 10-hour break until afterwards. If that makes the load late or makes me unable to haul needed freight, them's the breaks.

Yes. Coming up on 2 years with the company. No company is perfect, but Abilene checks the boxes I want checked.

Regional at Abilene means "Northeast". You'll spend most of your time above the Mason-Dixon line. You get an extra 10 cents per mile to compensate, though, and you can have every weekend off if you want.

I'm OTR, though I do a lot of NE stuff as well because dispatch knows I don't mind. I averaged 2850 miles/week last year. I coulda got more if I'd pushed it a little harder, but I like my downtime.

No, it was a food place in GA. DM told me I could have gotten detention if I went on duty and interrupted my 10hr break (basically restart it), but I was well past my 14 when they were done loading so going on duty would have been a log violation. The question then becomes, is the detention pay worth going down to safety for a slap on the wrist?.

I don't want a log violation, but if that's the only way to get detention pay...
