You guys are complaining about clothing.
Wear what you want. I’ll think some of you are characters, some are slobs. And some give a ####.
Work shoes/boots, work pants. Work shirt, recently shaved and showered, a determined look on your face that real easy like breaks into a pleasant smile. Well spoken and articulate. To me that’s what’s up, but I’m new so I don’t know ####.
Never seen a guy who gives a #### get out of a beat down turd of a tractor that looks like it could be OOS for about 30 different things. Never seen a slob get out of a nice truck. Those are the guys who scare me. *shiver*

@Cattleman84
You were born in '84....
I'm of '84.
We're, by general standard definition, and categorical grouping: Millennials. No reason to deny it. Unless you attach shame to a silly label someone else stuck on you as a definition of how we're singlehandedly, as a generation, ruining the world?.... These behaviors that everyone sticks to a Millennial, do you know who put most of them there? Our parents & grandparents generations. The people who raised us & ironically think we're destroying the fabric of society because we move too quickly for them to comprehend it.
Anyone who has a clue would say we're doing everything that has already been done, only on a larger & more noticable scale.... How many Boomer and Gen X loafers, idlers and n'er-do-wells have there been? There have always been losers. History is full of them! Yet these geezers are passing the buck like it's some new societal misgiving, something we created... Lol....Not buying that for a second.... (Google: The Flynn Effect, for just a bit more irony) I have old friends & young friends, friends & gay friends, married friends & single friends & friends that aren't getting any, poor friends & friends that are good with money, friends that smoke weed & friends that live clean, vegan friends & omnivorous friends, pick a color... there's things to be learned from and taught to, both. It's just ridiculous to think that everyone born from 1981-1996 is what's wrong with this world.... anyone believing that with any amount of conviction needs to call 911, have them send in the jaws of life, and perform a cranial-rectal extraction.
The World perspective does not belong to any individual. How it should be & what it is.... good luck making those gears mesh. They've been grinding since the population hit 2.
You sound like an alright guy, Cattleman. Being young & all.... believe it or not, there are a few of us 'Millenials' on the board that have more than just that one wit God blessed our generation with.Omega1, BigBob410, Gearjammin' Penguin and 6 others Thank this. -
Sadly those days are gone... and sadder still, the memories and tales of that time are quickly being forgotten as well.
I come from a line of ranchers and farmers that literally lived off the land. I have lived this way myself, but it is no way to support a family in this day in age, not without a whole lot of land to start with anyway.
I know what its like to live and work the old ways... I also know what its like to see a terrible storm rolling in with the knowledge that it will destroy my livelihood in mere minutes, leaving me to try and salvage enough to survive on. I can only think of a handful of people that have put their own health and safety on the line to save a newborn beef calf from freezing to death, or literally gave a calf its first breath of air from their very own lungs... This is the metal I was struck from. I learned very early on in life the true meaning of life and death, and how the loss of a simple beast of the land can affect ones own life, and the lives of ones loved ones. These are but a few of the lessons I desperately want to instill in my own children, but as of yet I am still struggling to show them how important these thing truly are. Unless one has lived it, seen it first hand, and dealt with the consequences themselves, it is just so hard for someone to comprehend.Auctioneer, BigBob410, Gearjammin' Penguin and 4 others Thank this. -
I've read all these posts and some are funny and some are right on point. I'm 53 and at the tail of the baby boomers (born in 1964) my parents were war baby's born in 1945. I started driving in 1986, no CDL school ,taught by my father ,who was taught by my uncle back in the 60's.Its not about age or your group classification when you were born ,it's about respect for a profession.,and carrying yourself like a respected adult engaged in a once respected profession. To be a truck driver was a once respected profession by the public and is seen now as a dead end last resort type job by most.It is embarrassing to see what waddles through a truck stop parking lot today.Has there always been slobs ,sure has ,but the lack
of any type of professional appearance ,or engaged in a respected profession by a large part of what you see today truly is embarrassing.when I see a slob no matter what age it's embarrassing that the general public views this as the current state of what is a truck driver today.I think the so called driver shortage has something to do with the lowering of standards to what companies will hire. Yes they want a clean record, but the dumbing down
Of what skill set you bring to the table , automatic trucks,GPS,satellite tracking , driver trainers (when I started driving you might follow a guy
Once ,that's about it ,you figured out the rest on your own, either you could drive or you couldn't.). Definitely lowers the bar to what makes the cut as a driver today. An influx of
Immigrants with no desire to assimilate to the American culture ( no disrespect to all immigrants ,we're all immigrants or our fore fathers were) just here for the money ,not proud to be an American or what that stands for ,and what a privilege it is to live here and what previous generations lived and died for to create what we have here. Sounds like I'm a cranky older guy, actually I'm not, just very observant to what I see in a truck today. As far as attire ,I dress like a man going to work .I wear jeans or work pants, good quality work boots,a clean respectable shirt (no wife beater or cut off t shirt),at least at the start of the day,and if I get dirty,I'll wash up and change my clothes before dealing with customers or the public. As far as the whole flip flop , beach shorts and back pack thing, yeah you look like a goofball if your working like that and dealing with customers like that. There is a place for respectable work shorts in hot areas when doing manual labor ,I agree ,not the safest I,but understandable.Does any other profession show up like they're going to the beach ?
your plumber, your electrician , doctor ,accountant ......No they don't and if they did I wouldn't use them if that was there first impression to me as a customer . Going into a truck stop
After a day of work to go take a shower,ok I might see that ,but ,maybe it's just me , but to me anyone wearing a back pack over 30 if not on a hiking trip or military setting looks like a
"Man child " it might be convenient thing to use ,it just
Looks a little odd for a grown man. I've always thought a duffle bag or small travel suit case is what a grown man travels with.Thats just me. The classic thing I see is when I see some goofball driving down the road with his flip flop
Wearing foot ,or bare foot up on the dash like he looks cool doing that ,like he's bored and annoyed to be there,That makes me cringe as I go by. Usually that's some immigrant pulling a container ,or some goofball driving for a Mega "driver mill"
Company in the business of churning through goofballs to stay in business.Last edited: Aug 6, 2018

You've said so much and said it so well. I was beginning to worry that some people (not all) were thinking that the beach look was a slam against "younger" drivers. Not at all. The sloppy beach look covers all ages.
I enjoyed your post. Thank you!MACK E-6, x1Heavy and driverdriver Thank this. -
