My old s60 got to 2800 rpm with Jake and fan on. Fan hub melted spit out hot bearings.

All those that have never driven a Volvo, those Volvo jakes work incredibly well, and I wanna say it had like 5 settings on the lever.

The brand of the truck, or even the model of the brand of truck has little to do with it. Everything depends on the specifications of the drive train, from the engine to the differentials.

One company might order T680's with a stock 400 hp Cummins and have it neutered back to 350 hp. Another might put in a 650 hp Detroit and keep it wide open.

Swift orders neutered specs. That's for maximum fuel efficiency and being able to top out long, steep grades in low range. Other companies want and need that extra power for pulling much heavier than 80K lbs and/or driving nothing but steep terrain.

You are asking the right questions to begin exploring more about truck specifications. If you ever get to the point of wanting to buy your own truck, the right questions start with, "What do you want to do with the truck?"

Then a neutered drive train would be perfect...

My c12 will hold 56k back on a 5% grade. She screams like a mofo going down this one 5% hill every other day including tomorrow. Holds the truck back at 35 mph in 8th gear.

I was recently offered a newer truck. 2015 i think. I asked what engine... dd15... turned right round and smiled because of my cat. It might be 15 years old, but compared to that 15 year old mack i used to drive (with the e7 425 horse, that engine brake would hold a cruise ship back in panama if needed, with its 2 stage bs) this c12 is literally the cats meow.

IKR, You know when you set the cruse to control decent speed something isn't quite right.

If you cancel and reset the cruise while the engine brake is on it will try to maintain that speed. But it's not very smart. You come to a hill you know you need to drop two gears for, it won't. It will drop one gear and speed will pickup beyond the cruise speed you set and then it will be unable to drop another gear because the rpm is too high to downshift again. So, you hit the service brake so it can downshift and then reset the cruise. I thought it was way more distracting to use than a manual transmission. Always diddling with something to get it to do what you wanted.

I guess you could just throw in the towel and run 25mph, it could probably do that ok.

    MACK E-6, Lepton1 and Blackshack46 Thank this.
