Auto vs. Manual Transmission......

That’s really the only problem with the DT12 IMO. Doesn’t happen all the time but it happens enough where you become conscious of the issue when come very near to a complete stop. I expect a software fix may be coming at some point if not already.

 

I can take off from a roll with no problem. 2018 DT13 I shift.

 

With mine, sometimes if speeds fall to between about a half and one MPH, it decides it wants to wait for full stop before engaging the take off gear and otherwise remains disengaged until stop is registered.

It’s actually rare this occurs but does happen. But slowing to 1, 2, or 3 mph then proceeding is never a problem.

 

I’ve driven both. I still prefer my 18 speed cat. I have a way with dealing with traffic. And that’s by raising my chair, push it back and put my left foot pivoted to the floor. If you do it this way, you won’t strain your legs.

Every Winter, truck accidents goes up. But there is major difference between automatic and manual accidents. Automatic trucks getting into accidents are most likely fatal or totaled. How’s scary is it that if one of your steering tires blows up, you don’t panic but the automatic transmission will break for you, you’re basically a goner at that point. Cascadia auto had a problem with the inter axles. If one spins more than the other, the brakes are fully applied.

Another thing, automatics have computers that are notorious for glitching up. This is due to the fact that they’re made of cheap materials and not built to last. The computer and wiring for a Boeing 747 is built to last for a long time, I mean it’s a $149 million plane.

 

So how are you going to panic stop in 10th gear? You really think downshifting will help? You think you have time? I can stab the brakes and not worry about killing the engine while you are having to use both feet.

 

You can’t talk to the anti-auto people. They’re convinced they can’t work and no amount of talk otherwise is going to change their mind. Never mind half the trucks out here today have been running them for years

I’m not pro-auto. As I’ve stated in the past, if I were to buy a new truck to drive personally, tomorrow, I’d spec a manual 13. I’m just not foolish enough to think they don’t work, because I’m driving one now after 20+!years with sticks, and the world didn’t end.

 

When driving on a snow covered road with a manual I liked to run lower rpms, it seemed like I could feel the road better.
Now with an automatic would that be possible or would it just downshift to annoy me?

 

The max my truck runs without using the engine brake is 1200 rpm. You can use light pressure and run as slow as you want. I actually idled 3 miles to a truck stop so I wouldn't start my clock.

 

I’ve never messed with the manual button. Maybe I should ?
