:biggrin_25512:Here's what I'm looking at. I'm retired but I'm still to young for the rocking chair. I left Ford in March of last year and hired on with the Railroad. That didn't work out " I got laid off ' and I'm not all that interested in going back. So I've been sitting at home with absolutely nothing to do.
I don't necessarily have to work but I'm not like most people, I actually like to work. I drove for a short period of time back in the mid eighties and I liked it, so I thought I might give it another try. The thing is, I don't really want to go with one of the mega carriers if I can help it. The only way I can see around it, is to get my own authority and drive for myself.
The problem I have with that, is finding freight. I'm not sure a guy could do very well running strictly off of loadboards.
So here I sit trying to figure out a way to make a go of it.

They want $2200 installed for a wetline. Right now the lot will finance me on certain trucks but trying to get me financed through the bank to open a wider selection. My credit is perfect but with no experience the bank won't do it without at least having an experienced driver on the payroll. That's how it came to adding one of his drivers to my company who will give me some training. I also have a stepfather in FL who I could add as well.

So for on the lot I'm looking at a '99 KW T2000 for 20k, but it needs a synchronizer replacement, an injector replaced and a couple small things.

With the bank financing I'm looking at a 2002 freightliner columbia in immaculate condition with new virgins for 29k

Same boat here. I have less money than I need to live off forever and still more money than brains lol. I wanted to go with Maverick or Roehl, but Mav froze hiring and the other good outfits won't take grad student as a work history. I'm not going to Werner or CRE.

With your own authority, you're not just stuck with loadboards. All the better companies that lease-on have motor carrier links as well to carry their freight. So you also can broker through Werner, Schneider, Landstar, anyone you want without having a contract or meeting their lease-on requirements. With your own authority and insurance, you can pull whatever you want. If I went that route, I'd probably set up with 10 of 'em to make sure I could find some loads.

not to sound negative but $20k for a broken truck seems a bit much.do you know how to work on a truck?theres a place in Georgia called jorden truck sales or close to it who sells late models w/$5000.00dn with in house finance.pulling dump is extra hard on a truck and seems like that t2000 might not be up for the job.$2200. isent a bad deal for the wetline kit installed.Walt

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that the big carriers had links for other carriers. I'll be looking into it.

The reason I know about the problems is because they said to take whatever I pick down to get checked out. I did, and got the list of things wrong. They agreed to fix whatever problems it has or deduct cost of repairs. I have to say they've been pretty fair. It's basically the same deal as your GA place, 5k down for lot financing.

No I don't fix trucks. But my stepfather is a cummins mechanic for a living and the KW has an N-14.
