The modern “driver” couldn’t handle working the way they had to.

No heat, no A/C, no power steering, load and unload themselves, shovel snow by hand etc. Roads were nothing more than goat trails carved into the canyon walls. All gas engines, no jakes and according to the book's author (owner of the truck in the pic) the surface are of the brake friction material was about 64 sq in IIRC. Basically when loaded, you ain't stopping. Having driven an empty freight truck of that vintage several times I can attest that the brakes suck lol. These guys were the original man card holders.

When men were men and the chrome was thick! No shorts or flip flops either! Lol! Disagreements weren't settled by Human Resources ,they were settled "outside".
When a man took pride in what he did,and appreciated the job he was given to be able to support his family.Theres more than a few qualities that embodied what many call "The Greatest Generation".

And they drove a few hundred miles a week, if those pukes would have had to drive a thousand miles in one week they would have keeled over dead.

Those trucks had like 40hp and 4 gears lol. Empty I could have easily gotten passed by a loaded super b on a hill lol.

Aren't advancements in technology pretty ####ing awesome?!?!..... Or would you prefer the Stone-Age of automobiles? Where you had to foot-pedal your rig, which had square wheels, away from the hungry T-Rex?.... Don't get mad because things have gotten a little bit comfortable. And don't set a double standard where you talk-down those comfortable things. We all know you enjoy them too. You'd have to be retarded not to.
