It's not like the old days, now there's computerized ports and container freight. No more hanging around the red light district in Hamburg for days. Now you may be lucky to be there 24 hours.

You can choose where to work. I’m perfectly happy where I am, I’m compensated well and fairly, and I wouldn’t participate in a “freight freeze”. You can only control you, you can’t control anyone else. If you’re not happy where you are then go someplace else.

Personally I wouldn’t work for a company that wanted me to live in a truck for weeks on end and continually max out or bump up against my 70, nor would I work a “regular” job of the same hours. There’s more to life than that.

My next job will probably be a high paced flatbed loader guy. Like ken Mac tysen krupp stuff. I'll take of drivers! Keep some of my wife's zucchini bread around for ya'll too!

Sounds about right. I can't stand a corporate setting.

Exactly. Why raise pay to attract good drivers, when there's plenty of folks with nothing to lose ready to sign up for those "huge" paychecks, and don't get me started on how easy it is to get your CDL in the first place. Reminds me of when i was in school although it wasn't THAT long ago, 13 years or so. But all through school, their focus had nothing to do with teaching valuable lessons or things that ACTUALLY would benefit you later in life. It was all about teaching the bare minimum to get you to past the state test, which back then was the "TAAS" test. Why? Because it made the school look good, nothing more. Reminds me of CDL school. To hell with how you actually drive, or what your truly capable of, just show em enough to pass the test, then boot em out and say "good luck!" Then bring in the next batch.

How much are local truck drivers earning in PA?. I will wager its a fair bit more than $16 per hour.

Trucking is what you make of it. This is a great gig for someone with no family or mortgage. I got rid of my rented house, sold most of my things, and put the rest at a friend's place. Living in the company truck, I was able to put 40k in the bank. That was my first year driving.

I met a really good woman, and we have been driving team for about 10 months. Saving a lot of money. If I wanted to, I could buy a truck. There are good paying jobs out here if you look around for them. And this is a unique opportunity to save money and set yourself up for an early retirement. Even if you only stay in the business a short time.

You better be ready to hustle though, and work long hours. I have worked at maximizing my drive time, getting loads delivered early when I can... There are a lot of lazy drivers out here, and they don't make money like I have.

I used to work in a warehouse and did forklift work. Most of the people hated their job and life. All I would hear everyday would be something like "oh another effin day in this hell hole" "I'm back to this effin place again" "this effin place sucks". Then you have people causing drama and talking to everyone about their problems....

    The hell with that ####

I checked this weekend, the Reeperbahn ain't what it used to be, anyway. Saw a bunch of bachelorette parties going on, for Pete's sake!
