With the big rails why add the weight of a 3/4 insert? And why not 46k rears?
And why not a 605 or 625 hp? 2050 or 1850 ft lbs

I've been looking at some heavy spec stuff lately for a mental excercise.....

Seems like most trucks over 260" or so run inserts- now, I like the idea of a big single rail so salt n #### doesn't get in there n spread them. But I'm seeing double 3/8 rails or "heavy rail w insert" non stated thickness on it for most anything with some length.
What's the thickest stock option rail thickness available? I've seen some of the old prime movers with ibeam frames; that's awesome but not at all what I'm looking for.

    3/4" frame?

The 3/4 is referring to the insert. Not thickness. Mine IHC has a 12 1/2" frame rails that are 3/8" thick wb is 278. Kenworth also offers those. They are just as strong as double framed and you don't get rust jacking

No I'm familiar with 3/4 insert vs full insert terminology-
I'm asking do they offer 3/4" single rails; for the option to have something LIKE double framed 3/8" rails but without the propensity of weather related corrosion and spreading.

How does an insert disallow rust jacking and corrosion?

Hell we're all confused. Who's on first. They larger single rail doesn't rust jack like the double rails do. Because it's a single. I don't know of any 3/4" rails

Here's what I run for pulling 200-220K while also doing a lot of legal work on a step deck.

    Kenworth T880 122" BBC
    264" WB 48.5" Setback axle
    10 3/4" x3/8" Frame rails
22K front axle with 20K springs and 425 floats
    46K rears w/ 4.10 gears
    Cummins ISX15 600/1850
    Allison 4700RDS Trans
Disc brakes on all 3 axles

My empty weight with all of my equipment is 25,500lbs for the tractor.

It pulls just fine with everything I've thrown at it. The Cummins engine brake is strong enough that I rarely have to use my service brakes to slow down. It will hold 200K going downhill at 40MPH The Allison allows for full power shifts so even if you are starting on a grade you don't have to worry about burning out the clutch or trying to shift before you lose momentum like you would with an 18.

As for the trailer 3+1 will be legal pretty much everywhere except California. Have it set up so you can pull your spreader bar and run as 3+1 or a closed 4. Have pin mounts welded on top of the neck so you can pin the spreader bar up there and not get hit for divisible load.

Lol we agree there. Just thinking out loud before I call a salesman up. "How thick can I get them, single no insert?"

Like I said the larger webs are just as strong as double frames. They claim some weight savings, not much much what I can tell. I've got 760k miles on mine and they are still in great shape.
