I love flip-flops. Just not in a truck driving environment.

Also some of you spend waaay too much time discussing how other drivers / men dress.

GENTLEROGER talked about a fuel mileage bonus which adds up to some pretty serious cash at the end of the quarter for him.

You seemed to dismiss the bonus as some kind of carrot the company offers to good boy drivers who have been manipulated by the company in order to save money via fuel savings. And, that a better paying job would serve him better without having to worry about fuel savings.

My thinking is: Maybe he will, one day, find a job that pays better regardless of fuel mileage BUT, in the meantime I can fully understand his interest in getting that bonus.

There is the dichotomy.... it has to be recognized that jobs which might be considered (more or less) entry level in this industry (and any other industry) are what new drivers have to deal with.

Sure! We old timers can boast about how companies exploit employees and manipulate them to better serve the companies interest, but these new guys have to get a start somewhere and denigrating a man's only option is really not fair.

I know you have been open and honest about your success and failures, and maybe I have seemed a little closed minded a time or two, but as fellow truckers we all have to allow for one another's needs and concerns.

You hit on a good one here.

I personally feel a driver’s wages should be enough to not have to worry about such things as fuel bonuses. Unfortunately, that’s unobtanium at dry van fleets.
