This is helpful information. I guess I just became so impressed with the load apps. I was like "wow, this is excellent money!". The apps are like Uber for Trucking, and they even tell you the average time that broker takes to pay and it provides the broker's credit rating and let you know if it's Lowest Risk, Slight Risk, Moderate Risk, and High Risk" - which I think it really helpful. Technology rocks!
Definitely agreed.
The ladies are very nice to American men there... or maybe he's thinking of his past days there when he was in the military!

What if someone plows into you while you are parked at a truck stop? Maybe you can duck tape a headlight assembly in pace to be legal to drive, but you probably need to wait for the part to do that and you have a load that needs to be delivered, then there is more down time to get it fixed, can't make money on downtime.
Easy come easy go.bryan21384 Thanks this. -
If you go to an oilfield right now, they will hire you and train you and when the next bust comes you'll have worked part-time. :^)
Harvesting crews work seasonally and some will train you to get your CDL... Classified Ads | U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc.
You won't learn logging doing ag, and they work when the crops are ready, not when you are. -
You need thick skin out here. Its not a place for people who are overly concerned about how and what people say to them.
That's not to say there hasn't been a few times were I've had to ask,
" Where on earth do you get the idea it's okay to speak to me like that".Blackshack46 Thanks this. -
I did blacktop paving. In the hot days somewhere roughly end of March at latest until 1 october more or less.
I am told after 1 october to go to unemployement and collect my money each week uncontested by employer. It will be either March or April depending on when spring reaches that area before the phone rings again.
The pay? Well... it's not 100K. And I doubt you will be wanting to go out after work at night being tired after a 20 hour day to do much of anything with the payroll, whatever it is. My employer occasionally paid cash when necessary. (The idea of taxes and so on will just have to be addressed in another discussion.)
This was the closest to seasonal work in Trucking.
Now.
Go back to the 70's and 80's Many truckers that explained to us the joys of running hard from 1 march through 1 november never going home. Pile up the annual income in the bank. 30, 40, 50 thousand. Whatever it is.
Go home before the holidays or first frost. And enjoy the family in the warmth of hearth and home for a number of months while other people battled old man winter, ice, snow and all that crap. Eat on your annual pay, pay a dallop in taxes if necessary and get back out march. It will be november before you get back home again.
Eventually you saved 500K to a million cold cash. You will reach a point that your home, debt and everything is paid for in full before you are 50. And find you don't have to work anymore until 65. Retire. We were there when I hit 38. But medically I was to be determined that I no longer fit for that work and must stop by 43. That was over 10 years ago. Everything has been consumed in medical work.
I am getting to where I deny or reject excessively expensive medical work that does not fix a problem. I'll be happy to carry the limitations until I die which will be a few years or so. One of the first lessons I was taught in school around truckers. You will live to be mid 50's as a trucker if you are lucky. Then that's it.
Well Im coming up on the mid 50's pretty much there and frankly they were right. I don't expect to see 60.
One final thing.
In the DOT regulations green book, there is a provision for adhoc (One time) work in trucking. That's covered. Part time or temporary work is also covered if you only wish to take a 18 wheeler out 4 weeks of a work year. -
Nowadays, I think they call it human trafficking or was that mail order bride scheme the kind where you'd have to go over to the country, meet, take a bunch of pictures, get treated like a king and then apply for the "fiance" visa for them to come back w/ you?

Many women try to find a American Serviceman on active duty during leave and seduce same to marry quickly. Commanders are usually advising the love sick ##### whipped serviceman when the time comes once they learn about a potential marriage.
I have nothing against love. But sometimes Women have a motive to get out of a ####hole country or village and make it to America and this would be one way to get it done by becoming a spouse of a American.
I actually had a coverstation with a Russian over dinner at the TA in Columbia NJ about wedding potential and dating off I-80 She was pretty and rather stronger than most American dolls from working a farm back home. I liked her. But I did not love her and disliked the apparent.. possibility that if someone was to use me or take advantage of me to get into America before being deported I would not like that too much.
I eventually married on my own terms a good woman. Which I believe was a better situation all around. It would not be the first woman I would have considered a life with. (There were not too many in the first instance. I left two behind in Maryland and one in Houston) -
Oh, it's not about mail order bride info; I promise!x1Heavy Thanks this.
