Plants that directly or indirectly feed humans thrive on increased CO2 availability so as a good earth steward, I drive as much as I can and burn as much fuel as possible to help support bumper crops such as those used to produce ethanol. Win win to perpetuate the cycle.

Sounds ridiculous? Any more ridiculous than the nonsense the OP is promoting?

As much as I find the addition of EPA statement interesting to the rest of the story, I still believe this man.

The moral of the story is speeding will affect your money, just like a DUI.

Heck, my truck can hit 80MPH easy (pre-emissions), but what do I gain by going that fast?

I peg her at 63MPH, and I have seen real gains ($$) in my fuel tanks. Heck, I get passed by Swift/CR England/ Werner trucks, and I just chuckle...coz I know I'll pass them while they are stuck behind a fuel isle lane.

I'm yet to miss a delivery time (or lose a load for being out of time)

Dont be so quick to shoot the messenger (even when the message has some interesting tid-bits)

But it will cost you, come insurance renewal time.

Someone above mentioned that Insurance companies are starting to factor "issued" tickets into their risk assessment.

It all depends on the officers mood, the conditions of where and how fast.

Many states are zero tolerance,.. yet they do not always pull you over.

I know for a fact in Fla, Ala, and La... on i10 and i75, you can run up to 75 - 78 mph and unless your doing something really stupid like tailgating or just hammering down the left lane like you own it,.. they will not bother you until you go over 80 mph.

Of course it does depend on an officers mood,.. they can pull you over for 72 in a 70. You roll the dice any time you choose to speed.

I drive at 62.....the fuel savings are real!!! The real myth is that people will get to where they are going faster. I set my cruise to 62 driving from Jackson, MS to Memphis, TN last night. I went non stop and watched CFI pass me at least twice on that run. Even if he hadn't stopped at the last rest area in Mississippi and had got to the same spot I was going in Memphis, he would have saved anywhere from 2-5 min but I would have saved more fuel.

50 over on the eastern shore is heavily patrolled by MD’s finest, and for good reason. I frequently see cars blowing by me at 70+ with the speed limit being 55 for most of it.

They’ll leave you alone if you keep it under around 62 or so. They have bigger fish to fry.

That my be true for some insurance companies. I honestly can't say that's not true. Only that I've been popped 3 times in the last 3 yrs and I still have zero points and no increased insurance premiums from speeding.

Where I did get hassled by insurance was for an out of adjustment slack adjuster,.. written up for faulty brakes and put oos.

Being that I am under the truck and trailer and check brake adjustment on a weekly basis,... and I saw marks on the adjustment nut when I went under to correct it. I am of the opinion that the officer sabotaged my truck when he couldn't find anything wrong. Just so happen 1 brake on the truck and one on the trailer were off,.. and both had marks. Then when the officer suggested a mobile repair service and I declined stating that I would correct it myself,.. he was visibly perturbed.

I hate to think an officer would do something like that. Its very unethical. But I can't explain what happened any other way.

So because of the oos.. insurance didn't like that. Even though it was BS.

    Exactly,.. that how Fla is.

My wife being former law enforcement and having conversations with state officers,.. they openly admit that so many people are speeding that it's ridiculous to pull everyone over for doing 72 - 75 in a 70 mph zone. Said they set the beeper on their box to go off between 80.and 85 mph. Then they decide if they will pull you over or not. And several officers specifically stated they generally ignore truckers speeding unless they are being stupid.

And I'm very familiar with 50. Ocean City aND Salisbury were old haunts of mine when I lived in Chesapeake Beach.
