Yeah thats quite a deadhead. Longest one i ever did was from Las Cruces NM to Sparks NV. But that was to get me there to help get a deticated account going.

You guys can believe what you want. When your "dumb and dumber" your still in training basically. We were both students and I guess they didn't want me out there by myself since I had not completed the 2nd training part.

This was over 10 years ago and I'm still driving trucks. Just not OTR reefer nightmares.

And whoever said I was full of crap. I'm 40 yrs old and have no reason to make this stuff up. This thread was about hearing other peoples experiances with Stevens. Thats my story about my time at Stevens Transport in Mesquite , TX.

I hope it helps somebody to make a good job decision. Whichever decision they make.

You kinda forgot mention that in your initial post.
I can only discuss what is going on now. I have no clue how it was 10 years ago and I refuse further discussion about that particular post. Everything was different 10 years ago. Including Stevens.
I'm not saying I don't believe you and I'm not saying I do.

So what's the problem? They have their federal support and people have jobs. What do you want them to do? To say "Thank you but we don't want it?" To give it to employees? Spread the wealth? Are you talking socialism?
Btw, 140% turnover applies to the whole trucking industry. Not only to Stevens. Quit blowing smoke please.

I'm dying to learn how Stevens steals money from me. You know, I'm also one of them "desperate people who WANT to work".
    Could you elaborate?

And, BTW, I'm not getting paid for this. I'm just a regular driver who doesn't have anything to complain about. Well except they could pay me like $0.50/mile. That'd be nice.:biggrin_25519:

I have not found a single large trucking company that does not offer referal bonuses to drivers, Stevens is no different. Stevens has taken NO money from me, that I did not know about up front.

If a person will follow the federal laws and regulations, and then Steven's policies, and when some dispatcher, or csr is trying to cover their ### with a phone call to you the driver, to get you to push the envelope, or do what ever it takes to get the load there on time, the driver, the captain of the truck must stand up to this person, and refuse. I have had to do this twice during the last 8 months. I used the policies in place to cover myself, got the appointment rescheduled, and lost no loads over it.

Now they know that if I have the legal time to get the load there I will, if I don't, they will know as soon as I accept the load, I never turn down a load.

I am 43 years old. I was diagnosed with ADD at 11 and took ritalin up until I graduated high school. I believe I still have ADD, but I don't take medication for it, nor do I want to. I have never been asked on a job application what medications I took as a child. And I started my career at Stevens back in 1999, which was the worst 12 months of my life, but that's a whole other story. Bottom line is you should never volunteer information that can be used to hang you. If they don't ask the question, there is no reason to answer it.

ADD limits tasks that I can do, jobs that I can take, but driving is not one of them. I'm not good at multi tasking, or working in a fast pace environment like a factory or fast food. Generally, I can only focus on one specific task at a time. I have to write everything down, because it affects my short term memory. If anything, my disability drove me to this line of work, because I cannot handle having a boss looking over my shoulder, barking at me. I can't even list the amount of jobs I've tried and failed before I found driving and settled into it. If you were to tell my late father, or my ex who left me 15 years ago, that I've now been at the same job for more than ten years, there's no way they'd believe you. Before I found driving my average length of employment was around 6 months at any given job.

    Amen to that!
I wanted to mention that but never got to it. Thank you.
A would add, even if they ask you about something that could possibly lower your chances, lie.
What can you loose? If they find out, you're gone. So you are if you anwer truthfully.

they told me 3months ago i would have my own truck around feb1st
instead im stuck out on a team driving that i did not consider part of my plan
all because they claim they have no trucks but i have talked with others that were in class after me and they have their own trucks, i know this is a scam cause the guy i am driving with cane from another school that he paid cash for 6,000$, and stevens is paying him back every dime,me however i trusted what they said that they would pay for half, of mine but i have not seen it yet,and even if they did i am still out $2,000 and the other guy gets a free
ride, thats not fair you know why dont they pay for my schooling?
and on top of all this my bank is dry and my wife is going crazy cause i havent made any money yet,i will tell you wha they do with new guys
they send you to places were they know you have to wait along time to be loaded 1 or 2 days sometimes, mean while no money, and as soon as you get

the load out of the woods and on the high way you have to repower it with some guy who has been here a while
and now you spent a good three days only one that you got paid for ,and it was only 100.00 or so some times less depends on how for you can drive
it before they give it to someone else..
bottom line ,you might make money with these guys if you stay long enough, but by the that time if your smart enough you will be looking into
other compannies that pay you real money
right noww im making 18c a mile ,its not alot of money and i dont think that it is ever gonna get better, just last week for the first time i manged to put $300.00 in the bank and that was working my ### off, and just when we thought that we would start making money they through us
a bone, they could of gave us good runs but they choose to give you the crap,
i cannot afford to go somnewhere else right now but as soon as i pay for this #### i am out of here... stevens is a scam, they charge you for everything pentalise you for nothing and make you pay for it all..
i havent been home in three months, save oneday when i was close to home and i stopped by for an hour....
i am tired of their lies and their ######## it will be a miracle if i make it a year

    Stevens student,

you argreed to go back out on the road as an extended team, with them using the excuse they have no trucks. You might try standing up for yourself, and saying you want your own, truck, and you will not do team any more. Then wait for your truck, it will take a week, but you will get one.

As for going home, you again have to request a specific date to go home, and then stick to that date.

If you don't want crap runs, then make every pickup and delivery on time, legally and safely. As for sitting, everyone is sitting more now than 6 months ago, it is part of the economy.

You had the chance to negotiate with stevens up front for them to pay for your school, just like your co driver, but you did not, so that is on you.

It takes a determined independent person to be a truck driver, one that knows how to stick to their demands, and make them happen. If you think other companies are any different, just read the boards, every company has their problems, and people who do not work well with the corporate structure of the company. If you continue to passivily do what stevens tells you to do, then you will continue to get crap loads, set for days, and stay a team driver for months.

I don't know why you agreed to go team. They PAY you for the time you're waiting for your truck after graduation.

I don't know why you getting repowered all the time. Maybe you doing something wrong.
Since Jan. 9 I've got repowered 3 times. 2 of them I didn't have hours to make it on time so I requested repower and one time my DM asked me a favor to repower a guy who needed to get to Dallas. Btw, his load took me about 600 miles further than I'd get with mine.

Right now I'm running from CA to NC - about 2200 miles.

I REALLY don't understand what I'm doing different than yall complainers and I really feel sorry that it ain't working for you.
Ask yourself what you doing diferent than others who getting miles, tuition reimbursements and their own trucks.

And again, before I'll be accused of cheerleading. I'm not getting paid for this nor doing that for anyone at stevens or wherever else. Hell, I'm not even banging any stevens's chicks but I've gotta say, there is a few I'd really like to get to know "closer":biggrin_25525:
