Hey guys, I live in Texas. Been raised on a farm all my life. My grandpa started me off in a 1982 Mack Superliner hauling around the Farm for years. My dad hauled heavy equipment for 15 years for Warner Cat and Yellowhouse. I went with him every time I could. Trucking always have been in my blood. 15 years old and I was driving 30 miles on the highway hauling wheat in. I just got my CDL. I got my 1982 Superliner with almost 3 million on it now and a 1999 Mack CH613 with 1.2 million. Thinking about getting a newer rig next year.
I’ll take any advice or any ideas or warnings anyone can give me. As I been raised, “ Asking advice is always the smartest way to learn, Not asking advice makes you dumb”

WELL. First off, If your 99’ Mack gets you around and does good i’d Stick with that.
2) at 18 you’d be restricted to intrastate only. Lucky for you Texas is a big state. You might can do well running Dallas/Houston for a while with the occasional West Texas or El Paso when the pay is right.
3) insurance might be a big challenge at your age, and I highly doubt insurance companies will take your farm trucking experience into much consideration. So best bet would be to shop around for insurance with Ooida and etc. if the rates aren’t right, look into leasing onto a company that can have your goals in sight.
4) figure out what trailer you will haul and figure that out
Others will chime in with more. -

99.9% of children at 18 do not have what you have.
As far as I am concerned you are already set. If you pet and nurse that super liner there is no reason it wont do the job. The one we had in my time was a great truck. Particular if you have that V8 under the hood for diesel.
My normal response is under 21 is too young and no one should be a O/O without trucking first as a solo.
Being in Texas, big enough for you to do some work and 250 miles is plenty. You are already doing it. Nothing I can tell you will apply until you are 21 or older and ready to get into Interstate and the bigly (Big leagues...) -

Do not buy a newer truck. Old trucks are still on the road because they were made for working not pleasing the EPA.
