I did a couple of searches and couldn't find much specific maybe due to the redundancy of the search keywords.

So my question is what you think about buying a used truck from a Freightliner dealership. Can I trust their inspections, dyno tests, etc? Would it really be necessary to take it to another shop to have it checked it out? I don't have these reports yet, just got started today with an initial visit and looked at a few trucks. I acted mildly interested so they don't know yet if I'm a serious buyer.

The trucks that fit my criteria for the most part were former fleet trucks under 500k miles. I have heard some bad things about buying former fleet trucks for the obvious reasons. But would buying one from a dealership give any more peace of mind?

There would be a couple of different warranty options available which I won't get into now.

And before you recommend what would be "best" I am limited like most in my spending ability. But I would feel better getting one at a dealership. Is this a false assumption?

    Oh god please dont.
And I like shakers just not modern ones. Unless it's a Columbia glider.

They dont call them stealerships for nothing. I would 100% take the truck to an independent mechanic and have them check it over do dyno etc etc...

I like the modern shakers better than the old. They have thicker doors, less road noise, and I didn't have many problems at all except of course not as powerful as many high power trucks.

But I worked at a small company where they were all mostly new and had good drivers and maintenance.

It would probably be good for hauling fuel locally and short hauls.

It’s kind of a whole different ballpark driving a fleet owned emission truck and owning one. I would seriously do as much research a possible between years of emission motors, 2004, 2008, and 2012 and what the changes in the regs did at each time to the motors and research pre emission motors. As an owner I would rather own a truck tgat has more road noise then own a 500k used fleet truck with emissions full of soot.

Ummm most like for a few months. Then you find you need 20k of work done and it's not covered by warranty.
